getting started...

Post by TheNihilisticIdiot »

Well I got my SP 404 2 months ago... I haven't had time to learn the in's and out's of this beautiful little box. To put it out there... I'm not a veteran beat making in the hip hop sense of the word but i would like to be. I am a veteran musician who understands theory, composition, and has been playing guitar for 5 years now.

1. I would like to know, where exactly do you get your drum samples from?
2. What equipment you use other than the SP in order to produce your beats?
3. Do you use hardware only( like madlib) or hardware in combination with software?

I like to chop drum hits out of records. then use the FX to mold my drumhits. If you dont have a record collection you can download drums from the library

turntable and records

I make my drumkits from found sounds... with the great effects on the 404, you can turn anything into a snare, bass, or hi-hat... Just keep chopping and re-sampling until you're satisfied.
