Initial thoughts! :)

Post by brettweldele »

Despite loving my 404 for awhile now, I found some of the operation a little annoying. i.e. no ctrl 3 for resampling effects/ no pattern copy etc.

well, I finally just went for a 555 and I'm glad i did. dedicated effects knobs, loop capture and effects memory made my day. In fact, its the only hardware sampler that allows for effects "key mashing" due to effects memory. There is no glitch or lag when switching effect quickly in memory (one of the things i worried about since the demo video changes the effect about once a bar).

Loop capture makes many things easier and opens a bunch of doors for making more abstract loops, not to mention fun freestyle patterns. It's very slick.

I'm a bit bummed about their messing with vinyl sim, though. but they added some nice new things.

nice!

what's the Slicer like on the 555? does it still have Flange on Knob 3?

the 555 seems like a really nice live tool

Flange is on ctrl 3, yes.

one thing i wish was an option...in effect memory i wish there was a way to have effects have "gate" style playback as in only when pressed. this would enhance the key mashing.

btw, the pads are very similar in response to the 303. the 404's were the same pads, but had a much higher resistance. these are nice.

on the 404 you can do this by holding Tap Tempo and then hitting the effect you want, which only activates the effect while it's held down

i'm sure the 555 must have a similar function?

you can do it with the FX on the 555 but not when your triggering effect memory pads.
