Chop Problem

Got the machine like 2 weeks ago and just started sittin down wit it seriously. I tried chopping a few different drum samples and nothing happened (i.e., when it was supposed to be chopped to the new pad bank all that happened was the exact same original sample was copied onto one pad w/o being chopped). I tried it on all the different settings, 1-10. Is there something in the sample parameters I need to change?

the auto chop works best if you have some space or air in between your sounds. you could always use the loop edit to trim it down also. I am not a huge fan of the auto chop so I mostly use it for drums, seems it works best with drums. Also make sure the sounds are as loud as you can get them with the red light flashing occasionaly. Hope this helps

Yah, I rarely use the auto-chop feature. I always just copy the sample to as many pads(chops) as I need, then use sample loop edit to chop it how i want. Although sometimes the auto chop can slice it in ways you never would think of, and you can get some sweet loops out of it.

the volume thing soundexp334 said would do the trick...however i avoid the red light flashing cause it clips hard...how long is the sample you use?maybe it's too long...

i'll check the volume, and i'll see how sampling to individual pads works too.

koraklos: the loop is like 6 seconds long, it's just a break. how long is too long?

someone tried a 30 second loop...!
6 sec is fine but it depends on volume and the kind of sample...
note that if the sample is heavily compressed then the 606 will not be able to find "points" to break...
if only Roland could provide a time-based or per-fixed-beat auto chop function...

6 seconds is long. try and shorten it and do it in sections. I dont really see you really needing to chop drums thats 6 seconds, (single hits).
