this is ill...the wax poetics i've been waiting for, after school its straight to borders.i miss my elemental :(

speaking of magazines, why is there like 18 million electronic music production magazines and zero hip hop?even scratch went under, and that shit was for the most part pretty wack.there has to be a market for a real hip hop production mag.

I picked up the newest waxpoetics... dope! The interview with DOOM is cool, and there is a page devoted to how he is making beats. Sounds like he is mostly using the 404 (he calls it the 303's big brother, and says he likes it cause he can be in the middle of the woods makin beats), mpc 1000 with jj os, and pro tools. He says he uses quantize sometimes and sometimes not. He likes to stack snares using the jj os then record drums live in pro tools.

"It's all right looping some shit, but at least put the swing to it. That's how I feel - I just feel a little guilty sometimes using too much of the computer. Sometimes, it's good though, for certain things."

He says he also like the computer because he can save something and come back to it. For most of his beats, he'll save it when he thinks its done and wait at least a year and go back to it, make some changes. So by the time it hits the people's ears, it has been under 2 years of studying.

Funny dude... definitely an inspiration.

Oh yeah, I don't know if this has been mentioned, but this issue also features Count Bass D, J. Rocc, a piece on Isaac Hayes, and Shuggie Otis! It's $10 in the states, but worth it.
