Hey Dudes & Dudettes,

Glad I found you'ze. I'll have many, many more questions after this I'm sure. Have a question concerning the above. Apologise if this has already been covered but I couldn't find a topic that fitted the bill.

I've recently purchased a 404 and I've been messing around as you do. I've two seperate samples of roughly 3 seconds each which form the basis of the tune. At present I trigger and loop sample 1 (which is on bank 6) mess around with the effects and then trigger sample 2 (on bank 4) which is the main body of the tune. This I also loop. In order to do this I have to switch between them live (and in time). It'd make my life easier if I could assign these to pattern banks and que up sample 2 while still effecting sample 1. Basically I want it to switch in time as a pattern will.

My question is, can I convert my samples (which are currently on bank B) to patterns? If so, how. I've checked the manual and can't find it in there.

Thanks in advance,
K

hey. welcome aboard.

there's a simple workaround, if i unnnerstand you.

take yr first sample, and make a pattern that is in the same bpm. make the pattern whatever number of bars (let's say 4). put your sample into your pattern on the first beat of each bar.

make a second pattern with your second sample. same thing - put the loop on the first beat of each bar.

put yr FX on yr loops.

trigger pattern one, yr first loop will start playing, and you can mess w/ FX. you can ALSO hit pattern two (so it is flashing), and the 404 will know that this is the next pattern to play. so this would be the cueing up you asked about. after your four bars of pattern one, the sequencer will play pattern two. you keep messing with FX.

that should work for you.

have fun.

Thanks Fauna,

In work at the moment (Oh joy!) but I'll give it a go when I get home. Just on the bpm. I could tap an approx tempo of the sample into the pattern but I neglected to record the sample in with a tempo assigned. Should I have done this?

Also, how do I switch between (say) sample on bank B to the pattern on bank A in order to put the sample in?

Would it have been easier to record it as a pattern? Short answer...yes. Long answer....also yes!

you can record a sample and pre-set the bpm, but you don't need to. if it is a loop, the display will probably tell you the bpm anyway. if its not correct, then yes, put it into pattern hit bpm, and tap tempo.

i don't understand your question about banks A and B and stuff. to switch banks you switch banks.

all of the recording of samples and patterns and stuff is in the manual, so read those sections and it will answer yr questions.
