Recording (songs) question...I'm pretty new to this

Post by doc.dustydome »

Basically where I am stuck is: I have everything ready ( song thought out/ played broken up in different parts.) Ill record a drum pattern, and then the instruments. I cant figure out how to add to a pattern or to layer them.
I've also tried watching some youtube video's but you cant really ask them questions that easy.

Any help would be much appreciated.

you can't layer patterns - your best bet is to Copy the pattern then delete the bits you don't want and re-do them

to add to a pattern, in Pattern Mode, hit Record then select the pad of the pattern you wish to add to. adjust your Length, Quantize and BPM settings then hit Rec again and you're in

see the Flying Lotus technique video on Youtube for the SP's makeshift Pattern Copy feature

I just played around with that advice and learned something new, so thanks! I'm still a bit stuck, what do you mean copy? (How do you do that)
After playing the pattern again and I record, and mess up thats what I need to know at this point (which I'm guessing is what your talking about with the copy thing.)

What you want to do is create one pattern with the whole song basically the way you want it.. Then, using the flying lotus technique, copy a bunch of the same patterns. (hold del + rec and you will see CNG on the screen. Make sure pattern select is lit. Select the pattern of which your song is on and then move it to bank A or B. Hold cancel and bank C-G (any one) SAV will appear. Hit a pad. Hit record. Then Move your pattern back to where it originally was (hopefully on bank C-G) Rinse and repeat a few times.)]

After you have a few copies of your song, you now want to delete out certain parts. re-record a pattern but instead of adding elements, press del and hold the pad/s of the sounds you would like to take out. From this you can build an intro, breakdown, outro, ETC. then just play your patterns in the order you wish. Hope this helps. Good luck on your journey.

Once I hold cancel and bank C/G and save record etc.. I how do I access and see whats copied. What's happening when I try is the slots( after pressing C/G save etc...) are filling up and it not even working. I'm real confused on this one.

The file backup only saves either bank A or B. It won't sace both at the same time. To Load, you must hold Cancel and press bank A-B, and then press the pad where your patterns are saved. then move them over to bank C-G. You will then have multiple copies. Don't forget, after you save the memory from bank A, Move the patterns back over to bank C-G, Then load the memory and move those copied patterns. Good luck

Does anyone know that video on youtube, how to make a bassline or something like that, how do you record those sounds to pads not in pattern select or anything?
