when importing samples off your computer to a flash card...

what folder do you choose?

it says the "root folder" in the manual...

i have tried the roland folder

and the 1st backup folder on the top left side

it still says (EMP) on the 404

any ideas?

You need to put it outside the Roland folder, so you have the Roland folder and all the files in the same place.

What it means by 'root' is the most basic level, i.e. the first one you see when you access the card on your computer.

Comparatively, the root of the 'C:' drive on your computer is C: itself (where you find the Windows/Program Files folders).

I'm having a similar problem except I'm pretty sure I'm putting the files in the right place. When I open up the flashcard on my computer it shows the roland folder and I copy and paste my samples into that space. The thing is, when I try this with one sample the 404 tells me that the card is empty and when I try it with more than one I get to the part where you assign the samples to the particular pads and it displays Ful in the screen.
What am I doing wrong????

check page 38 of the manual - are the files of either 8 or 16 bit?

they aren't compressed?

a few other niggly details mentioned on that page.....

This causes endless trouble - what the manual should say is "place the sound files on the card and not inside any folder".

The files have got to be .wav or .aif - it won't recognise mp3, mov or wma.

The onboard banks A & B only have 16KB memory - if it won't fit - use the card banks instead. Don't forget these banks are stored on the card itself, so it has to be in the 404 to use the sounds. These do end up in the Roland folder - but the 404 must convert them into it's own audio format, you can't put them there directly on your computer. Once they are imported, you can put the card back in the computer just to delete the original files so they don't take up space.

i was a tad reluctant to use the import feature thinking it would be tedious . but to my suprise its so fast, im so proud of this feature.
