are you talking about storing for sampling? the emx doesnt do that... the esx-1 has the ability to sample and it has the following according to guitarcenters website..

# 32kHz sampling frequency
# Sampling time (max): 95 (mono)/47.5 (stereo) seconds, to internal memory
# Number of samples: 100(mono) + 50(stereo)
# Memory: 128 patterns, 16 songs

i have an older one and if youre looking to drop weird sounds in or other drum breaks or whatever you can connect it to other equipment and use them together.. i could sample mine to the 404 and do weird stuff and drop it back into the electribe via audio in while other stuff is playing on the electribe..

this guy kinda explains the differences between the two electribes out now.. he is drunk and rambles and has the music up too loud at first but there is some ok info in there if you dont wanna read mumbojumbo..

loox like we've got a new mixtape name!

What about starting Brown Note records, since everything we drop is the SHIT.

bellsauce or anyone else who has messed with electribes or step sequencers...

im finding that i think i like putting beats together with the sounds layed out on pads in layers.. the only thing is my electribe does 16 and 12 notes (to a song not a note only) and im trying to work around to make it more like that boom bap than untss untss.. ha

anyway does anyone know if any of these machines have the ability to quantize or change from 12 or 16 to like quarter and 8th notes to make things more hip hop ish... i know the esx-1 is a little more geared towards hiphop but i donno about the note thing...

am i even making sense?

Are you saying the sequencer quantize is not in 4th, 8th, and 16th notes but 12th notes or something, that's weird.

its set up to do more techno style beats so you have 16 and 12 and 12triplets to choose from for setting up songs... you cant change them mid song...

i was asking if there is a step sequencer where you can actually place 1/4 note kicks and then add in like 1/4 and 1/8 note snares setting up a beat like that...

maybe the mc 808? i dont know much about that piece..

yea i know i can place the sounds in the sequence by ear but i like how the electribe is layed out in a line and its more visual as far as placement.. i like the 404 for more freestyled drum breaks but im liking the way the korg lays stuff out..

does that make sense?

you press play and your song plays down the line and kicks are on pads 1 5 9 and 13 and you can add stuff in between them and move kicks and its more visual... more robotic and ridgid sounding but thats why i was asking if you can change up the quantize..

its kinda like layering sound in photoshop all your snare is on one layer your highhats on another and so on.. but you can go to your snare layer and hear that you want your snarein a different spot.. and go look at that layer and move stuff around accordingly...

I think the MC808 can do that. Never owned one though, so I'd check out YouTube to scavenge for some info on that.

Sooo... after having had the sp-555 and my electribe for over a month now, I gotta say the electribe is a WAY more intuitive machine. Thing is, on the electribe, every feature is labeled on the console, and there's a "shift" button for alternate functions per key - which again, are labeled. There's nothing hidden, like "Hold delete, press resample" in order to copy something. If the SP worked like the Electribe, You'd hold "shift" and press the button that says "copy" underneath it.

Don't get me wrong, I live my Sp-555, but does anyone else find the electribes to ab-so-lute-ly rule in the "ease of use" category?

yes. and that's what i was saying earlier ^^ in this thread. i nabbed an electribe and then realized how lumpy the 404 can be.

not that i don't love the 404, but the ES-1's interface really is easier.

but 90 seconds of sample time is nuthin at all.

it "seems" and i use seems heavily, that the electribe style sequencing is WAY easier to lay out.. i def like the way its all layed out in front of me as far as pattern buttons go... i havent really gotten a good grasp on getting sound i really like yet though.. i keep getting one sound and go to match another sound to it and come back to my orig one and its changed... i dont really understand all the knobs yet... its sad the closest thing to this and the 404 is REALLy the 800 dollar mc808... i guess the korg with sampling abilities is closer... either somewhere on here or korgs eletribe forum i saw someone mention using an adaptor for the aged smart media or whatever to where you can use the more modern and larger cards... anyone know truth to this?

i like the layout better on the korg but i like the option of any sounds under the sun and efx and stuff more on the sp...

this forum is FILLED with issues like this... the newer electribes seem to be plagued with problems.. and its always "oh its so easy to fix as long as you can work a soldering iron like a pro its no problem.."

fuses blowing seem to be the main one but again they are soldered on.. a lot of random ghost stuff on there and stuff like today my electribe decided it didnt want to turn on.. crazy

there was some shit talking the 404 on there too.. kinda funny the guy who knew a lot about it was shit talking the 404 from a very basic knowledge stand point so it seemed to me..

Weird ish. I guess those kind of issues can be a real showstopper, regardless of a 2$ fix or 150$ repair job in a store.

I've been thinking about buying one, but I don't want to if this is some kind of 'standard issue' caused by normal usage.

Seems kind of like a big screw up from Korg as it seems to happen a lot! Even though most of the gear I ever owned from Korg is built like a freaking tank.. about 8 out of 10 times.
