drum 'n' bass drumpattern ?

... yep, that's the secret. Kick/HH/Snare/HH/HH/Kick/Snare/HH. The parts that double up on themselves is me playing with the Delay with (from memory, I'm at work...) 16.3 timing. Gives it some more variation, bit more organic.

EDIT: The Delay's on dotted 8 and just applied to the closed HH and Snare. It's magical.

I tried the description from above to built a d&b drum pattern but that shit was far away from drum and bass.
I don't know what's up on the hithat and the snare also comes pretty often and fast. It's like clackclackclack from all around :roll:

Are there any delays in the first pattern?
Do you program that shit on let's say 75bpm or 150bpm ?
What's the typical tempo for d&b? What about the drum pattern generally is it really just : Kick/HH/Snare/HH/HH/Kick/Snare/HH ????

I think most dnb sits between 167 on the really slow side to 184 on the faster side. Listening to your track, the basic drum pattern is actually in ballpark. You are missing the shakers/tambs that kinda play around the hats tho. Also, in many instances the pattern you've created would be layered with some chopped breaks, more switch ups, bassline would be morphing (throw some filter on the sample and tweak the knobs while it's playing), some pads to provide some ambience to fill up the sonic space, and more of effects synchronized to isolated parts.

well there are variations, but the most basic dnb pattern is a 2-Step which is what Jay described. On a 16th grid it would look like this...

At the core it's what you hear in a lot of 80's new wave, rockin' espanol and what not. That is the basic beat in a lot of dnb.

I mean those are def the basics run in the tempo range I mentioned earlier. But factor in all the sample selection (don't forget the shakers/tambs), massive layering, and ghost notes that start giving it shape.

This is one of the early techstep labels that pushed that 2-step sound before it blew up in the late 90's.

More No U-Turn stuff Nico, Trace, Ed Rush, Fierce. These take a long time to evolve but it's a good way to study just the basic drums. You hear all the elements working with each other.

i have trouble with the basslines in drum & bass

there's the old school jungle one, which sounds like a sine wave sequenced in lots of short instances, moving between notes

and the more modern "reese", long distorted notes that have alot of movement within the sound itself

while i can re-create the sounds, i have trouble visualising how the patterns are formed...
