What do you want to see in the successor to the 555/606? List features you'd like to have.

-SP-606-style sample (loop) editing
-(slightly) higher definition screen
-more advanced autochop feature; also the option to just divide into pieces of the same length.
-D-beam
-loop capture from 555
-microphone input
-Compact Flash cards up to God knows what kind of size, just so we're ready for when the time comes that many of the older cards will not be available for sale anymore. At the moment, buying a compact flash card of 512mb or less has become quite a challenge already.
-resample a pattern would be nice
-more simultaneous FX?
-more polyphony?
-more SP?
-ow and the SP-707 should be a tad faster in use compared to the SP-606. Not so much it's work flow (I'll happily trade less fluent work flow for a whole bunch of new options), just loading speeds in general.
- i don't know, perhaps give it a hard disk?

I think though, that if I'd continue the list further, I'd end up somewhere having described the MV. :lol:

yes yes yes!

3 simultaneous effects would be great
with 2 sets of 3 knobs to control them
one global/Master one for compression, eq etc (you set the parameters using the first set of 3 knobs while holding down a Remain-like button)
then 2 other effects, each with dedicated 3 knob controls for routing various parts of your track through

i really thought the second set of knobs on the 555 was for tweaking 2 sets of effects
the actual purpose (dedicated knobs for start/end time etc so no need to share those functions with the effects knobs) was a bit pointless, 'cos you'd rarely need those functions at the same time anyway

I dunno with the recession & stuff... software takeover... ya think Roly might do something like an SP-444 ?

For pete's sake just make pitching samples possible- even the MS-1 & Casio cheap ass keyboard could do that. If playing material right off the flashcard prohibits 'pitching' why not have it available to at least just the internal memory banks--

Some battery powered cool shit a notch above the 404 would be dope though, other than that I see Roly dropping a lower MV before an upper SP---
I don't know shit though !

I think it should have autochop, manual chop (wave length) and also they kind of multi-mark chopping I explained the thread about an upgraded sp404. Also maybe the capacity of like a 4gb cf card, usb definitely, and balanced line outs (no point putting balanced ins because most people sample from a tt) an xlr/jack combo w/ phantom power, a screen that you could tilt, yeah 2/3 simultaneous effects, D-Beam & maybe an 8 track sequencer. And all the other shit people mentioned.

* length shift (i like the 404 robo pitch shift)
* pattern copy
* sample copy without having to resample and re-set start/end points
* 7 track sequencer (cause it's the 707) :D
* ability to start resampling from an external trigger (can the 505 do this?)
* non-destructive resampling
* 3 mfx chips
* make more/all features accessible from midi
* either bring back vinyl sim or replace the compression mfx with the v.s. one
* battery power
* phantom power, even if it's only while plugged in
* pads, not buttons (preferably the ones Korg makes for the padKONTROL)
* no auto-chops
* no visual editing
* a green light

That would be quite a feature, but I think it eats away massive amounts of ram. :(

I hear you, but isn't this the world of the future? :wink: Anyway RAM's pretty cheap these days. I can get a G from crucial for like 60 bucks, and I know the Nihon techno-fairies could get a better deal than I can. Just sayin...

to ig9 I think you should be able to have the option of visual editing or autochop, so depending on your mood you could chop with a mark button, or just a wavelength. Yeah, bigger, softer, more responsive pads would be nice. Also a mixer screen where you can adjust the level, panning & eq of each of the 8 tracks.

I've never had a 505/606, just a 404. I used to make songs in Sound Forge though, obviously visually, and when I got my SP the audio chopping was a whole other world to me, and I dig it. There's a Zen to having to really listen... Autochop just seems lazy. You may disagree, but that was my list. :D A screen might be nice for the mixer, but as long as I'm dreaming I'd rather have a tactile interface with channel strips and sliders and such. Of course then we move away a bit from the minimalist SP aesthetic.

I'm probably going to wind up buying an MV of some sort or another. I'd set it up to use a screen cause A. I'm not really planning on moving it around too much and B. having that many options only accessible through a million menu options seems cumbersome.

Yeah I was thinking maybe 8 small sliders and some knobs for a mixer, but realistically that would dramatically increase the size and production cost. A mixer screen would be very useful. Keep in mind that if you want a true minimalistic sp you can just stick with a 404, the 505/555/606 are meant to have more features.
