might be cool to have a genre specific battle... you'd risk turning away some cats, but if it was announced in the music section of the boards it would probably also draw some new names, or bring back the OG's.

i would agree with the previous comment on broadening horizons and being open to new types of music. as much as I love the old school, down and dirty hip hop aesthetic... i also feel like blending genres is more progressive and opens the door to discovering something new. i think most people in these battles go for unrestrained creativity, which opens the door for a lot of that blending and experimentation... which is dope.

I think I can see where adru is coming from and to some extent I definitely agree. I can't blame him, perhaps we should add a rule of genre, but that would limit the creativity and freedom of the battlers a bit too much I think.

In the end voting is a matter of taste of course and although quality of the beat matters a lot to me also, it's often pretty damn difficult to determine which beat sounds the best.

Most cats here really have great skills and get very creative. I personally place creativity above the hiphop-ness of a beat when judging the battles, but I can see why one would do differently.

Anyways, what I'm trying to say is that I can genuinely say that I really 'had to look' for a good reason to vote for the one I've voted for as all these beats, despite the differences in genre at times, where incredibly close in terms of which one I liked best.

for sure.

I was stoked when you jumped in on that Kansas battle dru, for the same reason... another hip hop head in the mix (plus that beat was dope). anyways... it's just the nature of the arena I think... she's a fickle mistress: can't control her, and often times brings some unexpected results to the table. 8)

whatever it is, its gona be OUT there. also a question, i dont know if this has ever come up, can i put up a song to sample, drum kit/break, AND say... a vocal track? like some cheesy kung fu dialogue and see how everyone integrates it with the beat?
