MIDI clock Sync, noob alert

Post by Bellsauce »

First time poster, been reading this forum since I got my 303, and I just upgraded and could use a hand already...

Sooo, I'm trying to use my brand new 555 (got it toDAY) to tempo sync with my MC-09. The two will sync in tempo, just fine, but the problem is that every sample pad that sounds on the 555 in a pattern also triggers an unwanted sound on the mc-09. Alternatively, If I use the MC-09 as the master, then it's notes trigger unwanted samples on the 555.

That could be cool and all, but is there a way to send ONLY clock information and not the NOTE information from the pads? I would be happy with either component as the master or slave - I just want to sync tempos and start/stop info - but not send notes back and forth. Advice?

i'm not sure about the 555, but on your MC-09 if you set it to Slave in the Sync part of the menu, it should only receive clock info from the external MIDI box

you might have to tell the 555 to only send clock info if it is Master?

good to see another MC-09 user, mine gets a heap of play.

Thanks. Still no luck, I've got the MC09 set to Slave like it ought to be - and it still receives note messages from the 555.

When setting up the MC09 to Master, I turn on "Internal" Sync and "Sync Out" - and it still sends note messages.

Grumble grumble. I'll figure it out eventually; open to more ideas though. Thanks for your help!

try setting the MC-09 to respond to a different midi channel than the 555. If im right u should still get midi sync but it wont trigger the notes.

Frantic to the rescue; this solved my problem. Thanks so much!

Have you considered a career in Roland's "backstage" tech support?
