What would YOU change about the SP-404?

Yes I know I stole the subject concept from Engadget.

I thought it might be useful to get some feedback from real-life users. We know Roland watch these forums, so might be a good way to compile all the latest grievances/suggestions/bright ideas in an easily accessible list.

When you create a pattern, It would be nice to have the tempo saved with it.

I bet this is the easiest thing for Roland to do.

Well, if they ever make an SP444, I think it should have velocity sensitive pads, balanced line ins/outs, You should be able to chop like you play a sample and hit mark while it is playing multiple times and every time you hit it it chops it and then assigns every chop to a pad automatically, and you can then rearrange it, so it saves all that resampling, it's hard to explain but hopefully someone will understand? Yeah pattern resampling, & if it won't cost too much 2 fx engines?

great concept man. maybe after hitting the Mark button for every chop you want, you could use the knobs to adjust the points for finesse, then just do one bulk Resample which lays the chops out across your available pads

i know i ran the risk of simply rehashing old threads, but then again its quite hard to trawl through the forum and find all the bits of info you are after. thanks for the replies and i'm sure once i cop a 404 i'll add my two pence.

the mark-chops idea is a great one. similar ideas have been thrown around the mpc forums for a while now. as far as i know it has not been implemented in a truly 'user-friendly' way on any machine to date. the 404, or its successor would be a great place to implement it. the 404 seems to have quite a unique place in the sampling world, and nailing this workflow feature would make it a must-have, even for those whoa are already knee-deep in other sampling hardware.

...maybe the balanced ins and outs... but the frustrating limitations are what make the 404 so great. I've come up with my best stuff by thinking of weird ways to make things happen. This is what---in my opinion---makes the 404 more like an "instrument" than just a machine. If you want something that lets you do everything, set up a complete software studio and start clicking your mouse!
