Well I know of hip hop dudes, and some metalbands, but i was wondering is there really any good rock type of bands that use samplers? Think that would be very cool!

^ i'm seeing Death Cab this week! i didn't notice any samplers on stage last time i saw them though

there's some great Radiohead footage showing the Kaos Pad (2 i think) being used to grab and manipulate slices of Thom's voice while he sings. i think i saw it at the Music Thing blog

DC4C is really great and i would love to see them live. they have strayed away from samplers lately and they may not use them on stage much(dunno) but many of their early stuff had backdrop sounds that were done using samplers.

my favorite DC4C song:

also radiohead uses the sp-303  as well.

ah, right. the drummer may well have had an Akai on a rack somewhere, especially as a source of samples for the electric drum pads Ben plays

i thought Japan would be included in whatever tour Australia gets? hopefully you can catch them one day soon, they're fantastic live. A Lack of Colour is definitely an amazing track

i'd forgotten Radiohead had a 303...those cunning chaps know their gear

there's a group called lake trout that use a loop pedal / sampler to build up a wall of sound. killer in concert, definitely peep them if you're ever in baltimore...

I just made a rock song using the 404... don't know if that counts though...

I used to 404 for the drums, and ran an acoustic guitar through it to make it sound like an electric guitar.

you can find the song at http://www.myspace.com/3cpu it's called Rae gun.

Let me know what you think.

i saw radiohead last week, and the guitarist had an sp-303 hooked up to a wireless receiver so he was just walking around triggering samples

off the top of my head:
beta band
radiohead
avalanches
beck
animal collective
styrofoam
sybarite
why?
notwist
tarwater
lali puna
flaming lips
...those are just the ones i could come up w/ this am. i'm sure a pass thru the records / ipod would reveal more.

and there's all sorts of dudes / dudettes who use loopers too (andrew bird, dosh, kt tunstall) but that's a different bag of weird.

i was at outside lands in sf on friday.

i spotted a 404 in manu chau's set up.

beck literally did an entire song with all of his members rocking SP's (i spotted one 404 and two 303's) and thats it.

and of course, spotted the 303 during radiohead.

it was a sweet day.
