I just traded my 404 for the 505 was that a pretty good deal? i did it for the autochop the low-fi and long, and the swing features....i liked my 404 but those were the exact features i was missing in the sampler....anyone think i will miss anything on the 404?

not to sound like an ass, but only time will tell mans.

what you'll miss is (if i remember correctly) a bit of polyphony, long LONG sample-time, and (again, if i remember) the use of compact flash versus smart cards. also, the layout of pads in MPC style versus 808 style.

but i totally understand wanting those features you listed. i recently picked up an ES-1 and realized how important those features are to my own production.

let us know what you learn.

good luck.

honestly, i don't know man, you're gonna have to let us know the 411... i never messed with the 505 & i'm sure it's dope piece as well...i only messed with the 303, 404, 606, 808 & i like em all, they all do the same thing but each of them are missing features from one another, let us know what you think...peace 8)

Obviously, you'll miss some features but again it depends if the 505's features ,that'll help you being creative, outweighs the misses like Fauna said, pad layout,12 notes of poly instead of 8,long ass sampling time, portability, etc...
It really depends of your workflow.
I absolutely love the 505 and with the autochop, pitch and clipboard function, the speed of making beats is second to none.
I also have a Sampletrak and prefer that for sampling because it's much quicker to manually chop(like the 303/404) and you might actually find them cheap and it would be a great partner to your 505.

i would imagine adding the 404 to the 505 will be in the future. as i will eventually get another 505 but would never part with the speed of the 404 plus cf cards are so much easier to find and seem cheaper.

I'd like to have both, but it seems like more fresh producers than you would think have used the 505. These days both can be had for a decent price on ebay.

If I had to have 1 I'd probably choose the 505. But I haven't used a 404 & I also would like one alongside my 505.

You should get one since you're a 303 user,in fact the 505 and 303 make for great partners and you can use sm cards for both and yes,the 303 is usually expensive...

Mine came in almost perfect condition (A few minor scratches around the screen, and the box was falling to pieces) & with a 128mb SM card. I got it for £180, which I thought was a good deal until I checked up what the retail price was. But it was the only one on eBay (I was originally bidding on a 303 but that went up to over £200 - whatthefuck?) and it was well worth it the amount of use it gets.

You guys had very good deals(especially Whyse One...lol)! It's a very slept-on piece of gear and a great value for the price.
