Hey guys, I am new to the forums and the production game in general and I have a few questions. I am getting ready to purchase a 404 and a good soundcard. I was wondering what's a good soundcard you would recomend with relitivly easy instalation. Also whats some other things that a begining producer might wanna purchase to get started. Thanks for any and all feedback in advance.

i'd go for an external audio interface, which is like a soundcard in a box. the tascam us-122 is good and cheap. the firebox is nice is you can afford it and you have firewire ports on your machine. there are a few reasons i'd go for an interface over a straight sound card.
1. much easier to install. plug it into a usb or fw port and install the drivers and you're good to go
2. much easier to move to a different computer, like you get a laptop or switch from pc to mac or go to your friend's house and just bring the interface and drivers, not your whole computer. the laptop point is very important IMO. if you don't have one now you will eventually and where are you gonna stick a card? exactly.
3. it's got buttons! or knobs, or some shit. the 122 has input gain knobs and the firebox has transport controls (play, rec, etc.) much easier than having everything in software.
hope that helps!
