Anyone hacked the file-system?

I noticed the the SP-404 does not have a pattern copy function.
This seems odd.

Most people build up rhythms from basic parts, and then add more complex stuff after. I certainly do.

If you make a pattern, there must be a way to go into the Roland folder and find it, and make copies - rename them one number higher, and then have copies to build upon.

Has anyone tried this?

Yes it's very easy with a card reader. Here are the facts taken from some old post by Olby.

So if you want to copy pattern 1 from bank C to pattern 2 bank c. simply copy DCOPTN024.BIN and rename it to DCOPTN025.BIN so when you start 404 if everything was done correctly it should appear next to the first pattern.

real simple. just remember that pattern numbering goes like this:

BANK C: Patterns 24-35
BANK D: Patterns 36-47
BANK E: Patterns 48-59
BANK F: Patterns 60-71
BANK G: Patterns 72-83
BANK H: Patterns 84-95
BANK I: Patterns 96-107
BANK J: Patterns 108-119

I knew there was someone out there who couldn't resist testing that sort of thing. I will definitely use that. Make a pattern - make 4 copies and add to those copies.

Thats great man, thanks. I saw the you tube video and it works for sure, but it's just such a pain in the ass. This is a great tip. Much appreciated. I wrote the Bank / pattern numbers and their corresponding bin files right onto my Flash card so I'd never forget. Thanks man. Great stuff.
