Major Problem...PLEASE HELP

Previous to this starting this thread I posted a thred asking for help with my pattern sequences, well I quickly solved the problem it had to do with the length programing. So the other day I made a beat using several pads. I assinged them all to pad 1 bank B. It turned out just the way I wanted it to, sounded good, hit replay a dozen times or so. Then eventually I turn the SP off. But a few hours later when I went to turn it back on I hit the same Pad 1 Bank B pattern and it was my beat totally butchered. It was the samples from the beat playing at different times, and sounded horrible with large pauses in between. What the hell am I doing wrong lol? For the record I havn't been usuing a memory card, but I know A and B banks have internal so I don't think this is the problem, any help would be apprieciated thanks!

Change the BPMs. BPM info is not saved.

okay, thanks but another stupid question...you say "change the BPM", how do I know what to change it to? Do I play the drums and look at the BPM value and use that to gauge when I'm actually recording a pattern? Sorry again for the noob questions, but I can't make another beat till I fix this problem

You created the beat at a certain BPM (beats per minute)... so you have to turn the BPM knob until everything comes into sync. Basically, you have to find the BPMs you created that beat at....once you do, all samples will be in sync.

thanks again for the response, but I can't seem to figure anything out. I might as well say what I'm doing step for step.

1.I have 2 samples I'm using on bank 2. Ones drums, ones strings.

2. I push pattern select, record, and push pad 1 of bank B seeing as how all 12 pads are free.

3. I push length but am not sure how long to put it to, so usally I select 80+ so its a lengthened beat

4. I push quantize, usually not sure to put it to 4 or 8 or 16'ths ect. therefore I put "quantize off".

5. start end level option...i have no clue what to put on this

6. time/BPM....again I have no clue what to set it to, because all i hear is a metronome which does nothing for me. My drums are saying 97 BPM, my strings are saying 74 so I have no clue what to do.

7. and their is my pathetic attempt lol. if someone could take me through this step by step, starting from my 2 samples that'd be great. I read the manual like 10 times and the only part I can't grasp is the "making a beat" "pattern". I've applied effects no problem, resampled ect. but the most complex part i have no clue what any of the value correlations are in relation to my samples.

80+ bars?

length is for setting the amount bars in a loop. not the length of the song.
on average cats make around 2,3 or 4 bar loops.

, I'm not too sure what your sayin, but it sounds like your talking about the bpm of individual samples. you have to make sure pattern select is on to change the bpm of the sequence.

yeah, disregard the sample's bpm (displayed when you hit a pad)
you want the bpm displayed in Pattern Mode
you use Ctrl 2 to change it

so
go into Pattern mode and play your butchered pattern
press Time/BPM
then turn Ctrl 2 until it all syncs together

in future, when you make a beat write down what bpm you made it in so you can change the BPM knob to exactly the right tempo to replay it after the 404 has been turned off

i've actually been using bank j to store voice notes as to my bpm settings, i.e. "that song with the weird string loop is at 70 bpm". btw, i'm also using that bank to store my to do lists in general, as an expensive memo recorder.

i haven't really ever used the individual sample's bpm settings. i tend to gate everything so instead of worrying about making the samples the right length i just use them as percussive stabs.

Thanks a million guys!! I'm finally understanding this BPM concept

Only problem I have now is recording my drums, theirs this stutter step when it loops, literally like a couple miliseconds that throws it off, I'm assuming this is due to the length settings?

when recording a pattern why do you have to constantly push down the pads? Is their a way to push a pad once and let it continually loop itself? I set the loop function on and it was looping for a few seconds then shut off.

loop function will continue to loop untill you hit the pad. So, when you sequence and you hit the pad at the begining of your sequence its recording you hitting the pad again. Therefore stoping the sample. If you let it keep playing it will start again. What you need to do is figure out how many measures your sample is. Or just turn off gate and loop and keep hitting it as needed.
