sometimes if I'm playing a pattern and I trigger a long sample on the same beat as, say, a snare drum hit, the long sample gets cut short so that it stops in time to the beat...

any remedies?

Are you just playing a sample while, a pattern is going? or recording a long sample into a pattern?

For the first it might be because you have to many samples being played at the one time, so it cuts out the long sample. So if its that and you are using stereo sounds then you might want to resample them as mono.

If its cause you are recording it into the pattern its cause, when the pattern starts again the 404 will trigger that pad again and start the sample again.

It's the first... I'll try that out, resampling as mono... too many stereo samples overload the machine?

thanks

Yep, you can play up to 6 stereo and 12 mono samples if I remember right.
