How to keep the volume of samples at same level?
Hello guys,
First post here, so, hey!
I just recently bought a SP-404 and still very much in the learning phase. Yesterday I was sampling from some various sources and I noticed that not every source has the same amplitude (eg. a gameboy is way more quiet, cool sounds though!). It's ofcourse normal that not every sample or source has the same volume, but how do you guys handle this?
It's annoying, having recorded a whole bunch of new samples and then to notice that the new samples are to quiet or to loud compared to other pads or banks.
Is there a trick to keep everything on the same volume or do you just have to use your ears and compare and adjust and resample?
Greetings,
Doris

oh my g... it's a girl...
Welcome !
I agree with pt3r but also try using a compressor effect (mfx 12 or vinyl sim left knob) on your samples or at the whole mix.
If you want to raise the volume of a sample without 'changing' it, just apply the isolator to your samples and srew the HI MID and LO to the maximum right and resample it. Now, you can adjust the levels afterwards to get them equal.

does what you're sampling from have any meter at all. if so i would set a volume and level (or just level if it's a line level output). then i would try to get it as close as possible. also, what pt3r said; adjust the levels afterwords, while a program is playing for instance.
insert funny comment here.

Ok, thanks for the tips guys. Most of the time the samples I record are at a same level. I'm just recording away in one bank, but then afterwards, when I try some sounds from other bank on the new samples: woah, too loud!
In a while I'll probably get more agile with the machine.
PS: I'm not a girl. I chose this nickname way long time ago (can't remember why, actually, probably because it was funny). Some of my friends actually call me Doris in real life so...
Sorry to disapoint you

LOL
I meant to say I wasn't confused, but I just smoked a joint so I guess I actually was a little confused.
