The 606 has had another os update - now it's up to version 1.11 for xp users.

There's also a new update for mac.

Finally - and this is way cool - there's a driver for VISTA available now! I have tried this at work (we just got new vista computers) and it works fine!

Good to see Roland keeping up these days - when XP came out I was devastated that my MC-505 would no-longer speak to the comp.... I still have a 98 machine just for the MC!!!

606man are you sure that its a update for the unit ?? It looks to me that it is for the new Win Vista and not an update for the unit at all ? I looked on Rolands site to make sure but I didn't see any 1.11 well... laters

It's the third one down. It's only really useful if you use V-Link. However, best to have it installed anyway so that you're up-to-date (ready for the next update!).

Only v-link stuff afaik.... I would use v-link if I was rich! Imagine how good it would be in a live show!!

V-Link would be awesome, but it is unbelievably expensive! It is just dumb that Roland updates the V-Link while neglecting features most sp owners use! But wait, it is Roland we are talking about.

Thanks, I found how to check the OS version on the 606 in the manual. I checked mine, and it says it has version 1.10. But the "latest" system update on the Roland site says 1.09. How does a used 606 have a more recent version than the "latest" on the Roland site? Or are these two different things (OS version, and an update that can be added on top)? And what's different about the "Factory Data"...?

Thanks...I was checking the rolandus.com site, which doesn't have these updates. Having MAC OSX, I won't be able to use them anyway.

"Mac OS-X not compatible. Please use MacOS9 or Windows PC for updating." MAC OS9...? What's that about? Uh...Apple released OSX YEARS ago. Again, no love from Roland for MAC OSX users...

OK so I tried to load the 1.11 update to my 606, and got the error message "No Data" on card. It's so fun when things don't work.

I thought I did everything right according to the manual. Used a friend's Windows XP computer (sorry, I use APPLE). Formatted the card on the 606, dropped the SP606_111 folder I had downloaded into the Roland folder of the card on the Windows XP desktop.

Do I first need to delete the "SP606" folder on the card? The manual says (page 80) "If the "Roland" folder of the memory card already contains a "FCTRY" folder, delete this "FCTRY" folder from the card before copying from the CD-ROM."

There was no "FCTRY" folder, but there was a "SP606" folder. Is that the "FCTRY" folder? Maybe that has to be deleted before the "SP606_111" folder is added...?

You aren't supposed to put the file in the Roland file. Here are the correct steps to update...

Follow the procedure given below to install the unpacked system program into the SP-606.

1. Connect the card reader/writer to your computer, and get it ready for use.

2. Insert the memory card into the card reader/writer.

3. From the folder that was unpacked, copy the "DCNAPL.BIN" file into the root folder of the memory card.

4. Turn off the power of the SP-606.

5. Remove the memory card (to which you copied the file in step 3) from the card reader/writer as described below, and insert it in the SP-606's card slot.

When you boot the sp up with the card in, it should auto update. The pads will light simultaneously when the update is complete. Also, be sure to delete the DCNAPL.BIN file from the card after the update is done, or else the sp will try to update itself everytime you boot it up...

I've noticed a problem I have had since updating...

Anytime I try and format a card, my sp freezes on completion. I don't know if anyone else is experiencing the same thing, but if you have a blank card, try it...

Thanks; which is the "root folder" on the memory card? I assume it's the "SP606" folder and not the "BKUP" folders. I've copied the .bin file from the download into the "SP606" folder on the card. On the computer it shows it's there, and it's more than 4,000 KB.

But the 606 is not doing the auto-update you describe, and if I try to do it manually (Load factory data), the 606 says "No Data."

Thanks for the help, but I've tried this several times according to your steps above and can't get it to work. Any suggestions...?
