organizing samples...help me!

e yo regaz, my question is about how do you organize samples in the SP 404.
I'll want to have some drums kit (kicks, snares, hat, crush ecc...) some bass notes and my sample on my SP, for using it as a sampler/drum machine with my drums and bass sound in the machine. Now for every beat that i made i load from pc my sampled drums and i want to be able to organize my sample in order to do that.

Put them in separate folders like kick,hi-hat,snare,open hi-hat, bass, piano, guitar, strings, etc.
I think that's what you're asking.

Yo didn't find a good way for me to organize my samples, too.
On the Mpc I have folder like kicks, snarez,.....

... but I already need a good software to organize my shit.
I don't won't to open each sound just to hear what it is.

By now I use Fruity Loops

. I've putted my libary into the user folder, so I can click on a sound in the explorer and it plays, which makes choosing sounds very fast... it works really good for me but isn't there a good program beside FL just for organizing ?

probably i don't understand doc, can u explain me? how can i organize the samples in separate folders in the SP?

In the sp you just have to remember where you put your samples, at least you can preview sounds in the pattern sequencer before you use them. On the 303 you just have to know where you placed everything start to finish.

Perhaps you could use a different pad bank for each kind of sound, but nowadays I tend to play drums in one go using one track so for me on the SP-606, one pad bank has to be one drumkit also... I don't know how you guys do with 12 pads, but 3 times 4 pads should be enough to get 1 drumkit and some samples going.

If you have a mac then you can preview any sample if you have the folder view in columns. Just have all the samples organized on your computer in folders and then you can browse the files.

but how is it that you organize it so that say you have a kick drum on pad 1, snare on pad 2, hi hat on pad 3, etc. etc.

i've been wondering this too. how is it you organize samples on the specific pads you want them?

and the wav converter will do that on the 555, no?

I think it depends on how you make beats. If you play all the drums in one go, then it's nice to have all the drum samples you need in one and the same pad bank. Under which pad the hi-hat or kick drum is is mainly a preference thing.. I usually have kick - snare - hi-hat - bassdrum or something like that across 4 pads.

no no. i mean how, as in literally how do you do it, not what are your preferences.

literally, how do you make it so the kick is on pad 1, etc. etc.

Hold the delete button and then press the rec button and the display will say CHG, now activate the pad you want to move your sample from and then press the pad where you want to move the sample to and rec will flash, now press rec and you're done. This is all in the manual and very basic, pretty soon I'm going to just stop wasting my time with these posts since I get tired of reminding people that Keesj was nice enough to post direct links to all the manuals.

the doctor is right, it does seem harsh but there is a need for the search button and those who use it can probably get farther, faster. i mean i love it when some one brings back a three month old post with a good question or even a simple one. cuz then you know someone did their homework.

as far as putting the samples in the right place, do a search on how to import files from pc. you'll find their are other ways to achieve this (i.e. naming your files the proper way and importing them via cf card).
