Ok, here's the situation:

I can get a like-new and in mint condition SP-606 for $300.

good deal if it proves to be what I want?

Seriously; you're getting a LOT of bang for your buck there. I paid 750 ($au) for mine and it's worth every cent, so 300 ($us, i presume?) is awesome.

yeah, that's what i figured, but i'm not really sure yet.

currently, i have an MPC1000, but i've been looking to include an SP-something to my rig.

The 606 is an excellent partner to an MPC. You have 1/4" connections, so they'll hook right up with no degradation of sound, the 606 has full midi connectivity, you can use the EXT SEQ SAMPLING function to capture sequences from the MPC painlessly, and, best of all, you can run the MPC through the 606 in real-time, so both samplers can do their respective thangs with access to the awesome effects and the 6pole filter on BOTH machines!!!! kewl or what?

You'll love what you can do live with that setup

That's really cool. That's kinda what i had in mind, but i'm new to sampling, production, and this sort of music overall.

it seems like a daunting setup that i currently don't know how use effectively (yet).

live is really how i'd like to use a setup like this, but i'm not sure if my money would be better spent somewhere else, but i'm really gonna think about this.

Daunting at first, yes, but fairly easy to get your head around with a little persistance. Everything is right in front of you, so you can focus on the tweaking, freaking and crowd-pleasing!

As you would have most things sequenced in the MPC, with the SP adding it's sparkle over the top, you would essentially be triggering patterns on the fly and tweaking effects.

You would have to rehearse (like a real band :wink:

).
