Can i do that? i have read manual and try to find this but cant.

when you record a pattern sequence the standard tempo is 4/4 and you can quantisize your kick or snare in lot of posibilities...... but how can i record a pattern with a 3/4 tempo?

tic toc toc tic toc toc tic toc toc ......

you know what i mean.

sorry if there is the answer in another topic . i have used search and didnt find it.

Oh man, you're going to have to break out some math to figure it out. And you won't really be able to rely on the quantization.

You can either just time your hits in freeform, and go for 3/4, and ignore anything about the BPM that the SP tells you. The 404 will deduce all BPMs according to the assumption you're going to play in 4/4.

The other option: Fractions. Common denominators, numerators, all that 3rd grade math comes in really handy in these situations. I can't explain it very well, but it's not terribly difficult to wrap your head around.

[At the same BPM] 4 bars of 3/4 is equal to 3 bars of 4/4 (12 beats total in both. You see? Because the lowest common denominator between 3 and 4 [the first number that they will both hit as you multiply them individually along the multiplication table] is 12). I don't know if that helps you at all, but that's the basic idea behind trying to play in 3/4 on an SP.

EDIT: It's only a coincidence that the lowest common denominator between 3 and 4 is also the same value you get when you multiply them together. That's not how lowest common denominators work most of the time.

I wouldn't try to make a beat machine with a minimal sequencer do off time sigs, I'd do it live with the sp or use a program.

hey karmakoma - i do what's suggested above - a 12 beat phrase that i play in three. so, threes over fours, if that makes sense.

the other thing i do is just sample something in 6/8 (so, swing) and then add in one-shot hits like kicks and ride cymbals to sort of make it swing 3/4.

hope that helps. that three over four trick is neat tho.
