Last night my 303 was making a terrible amplified sound when I played more than one sample or pad at the same time. I thought it was my card since the first time it happened it wiped the c and d banks, then I cleared everything on my computer since the machine wouldn't initialize the card. I sampled sounds onto both internal banks and the card and they made the same noise when played at the same time but I could now initialize the card with the machine. I called Roland today and while on hold I plugged it in to see if it was just my headphone jack malfunctioning or something and everything worked fine like nothing happened. That was scary, 'cause I went to buy one on Guitar Center online and they're all sold out.

The 404/303 are basically the same.
Soundwise and shit. Some effects sound a little different on the 303/404, while others are the same. The sequencer changed a little but you know, if you can create a beat on the 303 you can exectly recreate it on the 404 and vice versa. Except if you use one of the 404 effects the 303 doesn't have ofcourse.

You can resample more than one pad at once on the 404. When you go throught the resampling procedure, you can hit multiple pads and they will be stored in the destination pad. It works in real time, like a tape recorder, so if you pause before hitting another pad that pause will be recorded as well.

The pads are the major difference, but for all intents and purposes they are the same type of machine.

true, the pads are stiff on the sp-404, but I like them. They are still better then the always broken mpc pads.

What the 404 can't do that the 303 can is allow you to resample a pad, AND have yet another sound coming into the EXT SRC *at the same time*.

The 404 won't let you activate the EXT SRC button while in resample mode, which is so aggravatingly ridiculous a feature to remove that it defies all logic.

I like 60, 3000, and 2000xl pads. The new 1000's are supposed to be fixed as well, but they're small and weird anyways. As for the few diffs between the 303 and the 404, roland needs to make it so you'd kinda want both so that they can double their money. Why else would they make the 202 portable but not the 303 and then they come out with the 404 and it's also portable. I saw a video somewhere that shows how to make a battery pack for a 303 to make it portable which is some macgyver shit.

Haha, yeah. I was referring to my personal story. Had a 2500 and it broke 5 times. Then I just got all my money back.

Man, fuck NuAkai.

Funny comparing the 303 and 404 though.

When I make a beat on the 303 it seems to sound old school to me. Like it sounds different then the 404. Then I do the exact same beat on the 404 and notice that they sound a like.

I think that it has to do with the look of the 404 or so. Just seems so 'clubbish'

yeah, seeing a beat come out of a grimy colored boxy 80s looking machine can give a different vibe than seeing a beat coming out of a modern looking machine. I been wanting to get my 404 more grimy looking but have no idea where to start.
