i have a question about compact flash card and the 404.

I going to be picking the sp 404 in a week or so but i also have to buy a card reader for my pc. Say you have your beat ready to go do you just save the whole thing on the flash card then plug it into the pc then burn it or finalize it and what not? Is it that easy?

no, sadly it is not that easy

as i understand it you can export the pattern as midi notes (then recreate it within your PC by applying the same samples to each midi note)
or you can do a mixdown within the 404 and export it as a wav that you can then drag off the card onto your harddrive

can anyone else confirm this?

i recommend tracking your beats into your pc through your soundcard. you can record them 'clean', then record alternative versions with live FX etc.

you can set the 404 up to be midisync'd with a DAW within your pc, so that if you want a drum pattern from your 404 to go with a track you made, the 404 pattern will start at the same time you press record in the DAW, and play at the same tempo

or, more simply, just use cool edit to record the beat you made clean and simply :)

EDIT: this thread may help...

You can only load your beats from the card if you make your beats by resampling. If not you gotta record it thru the audio interface. You can get a griffin iMic for $25 and it actually works really well. It comes with a very basic recording program also. Or you can use a free software like kristal.

I'm just gonna buy cubase se for 99.99. So with that can I just record my beat from the 404 to cubase without any problems, assuming it is all hooked up right? How does that work anyway? like say i have my beat made on the the 404. I have my 404 connected to my audio interface, im running cubase so know how do i record the beat into cubase?

i'm not too familiar with cubase
but you should be able to press record on an audio track and then when you play your pattern from the 404, cubase will record the audio signal

I think cubase will be ooverkill if you only need to record your sp-404, any freeware recording program will do the same. audacity for example does a mighty good job and can also host vst plugins and does multitrack recording and mixing. You can buy some vinyl or whatever for those 99.99.
