SP Forums Mixtape

Post by ghost bazz »

Hey... I know there was talk some time ago of a forums mixtape. Did anything come out of that?

I think we should put together another collaborative effort. Any ideas for themes and what not are welcome here. I think we should get it worked out so there are lots of people on there with like 3 tracks each or so. We can get some nice artwork done that we post up and agree upon after some feedback and what not... then post the print files (pdf's of jewels case art) so people can print and assemble on their own, and also have a link to the final cd mix for people to download and burn on their own. Then we can all take our own course of action for promoting and selling cd's and get this thing play in all corners of the world.

Any thoughts...? I think specific track submissions can be talked about sometime down the road... for now, is anyone interested?

Sorry, I've been really busy with my own projects. I still have the files people submitted so I can load them so people can evaluate and add tracks or what not.

Right on Doc. I think this could work out better as an ongoing series actually since we have a tireless pool of talent and inspiration here on the boards.

So to get this rolling, here are some thoughts:

NAME:
We need a name for the album/series and I think we should keep the "sp-forums" moniker on the DL. I don't think we want people that hear this to come straight to our forums and start downloading free instrumentals (although people might feel differently about this). I think something like, "Beat Messiahs vol.1" or some shit like that... open for suggestions, so let's hear what people like.

SUBMISSIONS:
We also need a way to start submitting beats and storing beat submissions. Maybe everyone interested can put up like 3-5 beats. Hopefully we can post them in a way that everyone can listen to all of the tracks and then we can vote on what goes on the final mix. Any suggestions on how to submit??? I have a couple personal websites, and I wouldn't mind making a special page that holds a link to all the submissions... so if this sounds cool, I can post an email for people to send em to and show you what I mean.

ARTWORK:
Artwork can be done once we get a name for the project. I'm thinking a slim-line cd insert... printed on one sheet and folded, so it has a front and back side. If anyone is into illustration or whatever and has something already that they want to put up for consideration then let's see it. I do Graphic Design for my full-time gig, so I will volunteer to make the digital print file (wether it uses someone's hand drawn artwork or not... I can also design it from scratch). Then we will post up a pdf so people can download that and put together their own cds.

I think this should be enough to really get things underway. Oh yeah... beat requirements... all SP? I would like to leave the door open for some scratching and shit on the tracks too... how bout anything that comes out of an SP/turntable combo, recorded on whatever?

alright everyone... here's the email to send submissions to. Instead of sending the actual MP3 file, please send a link to download the file through zshare or some other file sharing service so my email doesn't blow up ( http://zshare.net/ ).

[email protected]

I will take all the submissions and post em up on a page on my server for everyone to review. File size may become an issue at some point, but we can deal with that if and when it comes up. I'll put up a link once I get some tracks to post. Peace!

sounds nice man.

i actually have a few ideas im working on at the minute and would be more than happy to add to this (if people think my tracks are up to par obviously).

i think particular attention should be paid to the name and the art-work.

i know a lot of people here frequent other forums so it would be dope for you to drop a link to another community and have other peeps DL.

the idea of an ongoing beat-series is a cool idea too.

i think the artwork is also important.

artwork can make the difference between something looking wack and something that makes you go "thats interesting".

for the name like i mentioned earlier. maybe something simple like SP-Forum Beat Tape because there are people here with different styles. i know if the majority of the peeps here were making metal songs and wanted to call the beat-tape "aborted devil fetus beats" id be slightly unhappy.

I'm down for this. Give me some days to work out some tracks.

I could contribute to the artwork, I'm doing lots of Photoshop stuff. How about a pic of the SP involved on the cover?

I also think that we should leave the name quite simple and fitting, nothing to fantastic. Like "The SP-Forum Joint/Connection/Union" or whatever.

Let's do this!

Right on... there appears to be a decent amount of support behind getting this put together.

blindfold, I think you got a bit of time to get some stuff together... not months, but at least a couple weeks for sure. As for artwork, let's see what you got... but first let's get a thread going for the theme and name.

And maybe a separate one for submission questions and info.

Good stuff fam! Let's get this shit crackin!
