Basic Live Set-Up

alright, so i've been thinking a lot about how I would like to utilize the 404 if i ever find the money to get one...and to think strategically about how I would most likely be using the machine.

I realize that, while I would use it during the recording process...i would very much like to utilize as a live instrument, and be able to seamlessly integrate several patterns and ethereal sounds and noises together...which eventually led me to the idea that I would probably want/need two samplers.

so here's the equipment i've been looking at to plan out a live performance set-up:

2 sp 404's

1 digitech vocal 300

1 mixer (i'm unsure about which one to get)

whats important to know ist hat my price range is not gigantic, nor am i an audiophile when it comes to buying equipment.

now i have some sense of mixers, and how to use them, but not a great sense.

basically the idea would be to have each sampler running through a channel in the mixer, and then another channel would be reserved for vocals...which would run through the digitechvox300 and then into the mixer...


okay...so i've been looking at the mackie dfx6 for a potental mixer

now...with my vocals, i could just run them straight through the effects box, and then into the XLR input of a channel...

but the 404's...well i'm a little confused about how to run them through the mixer...

...the 404's have rca chords as out's...but i dont if there are sufficient rca in's on the mixer to run them through it or not....are there?

im sorry if this is really obvious, but i cant tell...

how does one generally run 404's through mixers? do i need to find some sort of rca to 1/4' converter?

anyways, the overall idea is to run both samplers, and the vocals into the mixer, and then run the main outs of the mixer into the PA of whatever venue i happen to be playing...and thus have a control of the blend and mix of everything right there on stage..

would the dfx6 be able to do this? if so, how would i go about it?

basically im going for the panda bear approach...just swap 303's for 404's .

samplers+vocals ---> mixer ----> PA

how would i go about it?

any insight would be greatly appreciated...sorry for such a novice question, and i hope it all made sense.

sounds good man.
you don't need RCA-phono convertors, you can buy leads which have left and right RCAs on one end, and left and right phonos on the other.
my mixer has all RCA inputs, so i just use RCA-RCA leads...depends on what your mixer requires you to plug in

your set up sounds sweet. but, perhaps if you have 2 404s you might want to link one of them as an FX send from your mixer (you'll need a mixer than can do this)? just another option to consider

A 3 or more channel DJ mixer would have all the RCA and 1/4" inputs you'd need. Plus you'd be giving yourself a lot of crazy options through the use of the crossfader and general advantages of a DJ mixer (silent cueing, intuitive layout, etc). You'd be taking it a step beyond Panda Bear's setup.

EDIT: Sorry, forgot to mention that DJ mixers often have mic inputs.
