So I swapped off my moldy old MC-307 for a crispy new M-Audio Trigger Finger. At first i was like "Dude, I got hosed" BUT after a day or so getting it programmed to control the 404 like I want I'm glad i got it. Damn, I didn't realize how big a difference it would make to have some decent pads to with the initial 404 awesomeness.
I set it up with the Enigma editor where I can switch templates to switch banks, just 2 button taps away. Sad the 404 doesn't allow for more midi control. Would have been great to change fx or even conrtol em from the TF.
I know some of you guys rock pad controllers (which one?) with your SP's, did the implementation of the controller make a difference for you?

definitely, i love having extra pads (i use the padKontrol).

for jamming, i like to leave the 404 in Pattern Mode, so i can switch between seqeunces from the 404, while using the padKontrol's pads to trigger samples/play drums etc

im wondering when you say you have the TF set up with the enigma software what does that mean?

im useless with MIDI and find it so confusing. did you just program it on the comp and then connect it to the 404. like 404 to TF, with no computer involved once you've got it the way you want?

hmmm.. I didn't know this is possible.. So the 404 can be in pattern mode but still play samples without triggerin another pattern to play? Cool..

Thanks a lot for that info! I was wondering about how to do that, too. So I might have to look out for a decent Controller now.

I use the Enigma software to program the TF, i.e. which notes the pads trigger and etc. Then the software sends that t the TF and I can disconnect it from the computer. I have the TF midi out goin to the 404 midi in, using the TF to trigger the 404.

And yeah it awesome to be able to trigger sample while the 404 itself is in pattern mode. Makes jamming a whole lot more fun.

yeah, but you gotta trigger the samples from a different interface

what OS are you guys running??

on my 404 i can select a pattern to play and then i hit the pattern select button and im back at the pad banks with the individual samples on them. now i can just play samples over my pattern and record it to tape.

It has nothing to do with the computer at all. I'm simply triggering samples on the 404 from my TF. Each pad on the 404 has a midi note number, the TF's pads are programmed to send those notes. I can have the 404 in pattern mode and still trigger samples on the 404 via my TF without leaving pattern mode.

I guess he got you wrong *g* We all can play samples along to a pattern by hitting pattern select button again but with such a TF it's possible to switch the patterns and play samples to it at the same time and that's a huge advantage.

i got a padkontrol and it's nice. you could also have 28 samples at your finger tips. one very cool thing is it can be programmed without a pc. really great having an external velocity pad with the 404, yeah?

^ indeed, it's the dog's bollocks

using Roll on high settings can produce some very twisted sounds too, oscillating kick drums etc

what you might have to do is:
go to your pK's Scene that controls your 404
hit Setting
hold down Roll
the pads that are lit up will be enabled to be Roll'ed
so hit all the unlit pads and you're ready to
(remember to save this to your scene for it to stay that way)

works the same for Flam

Hmmm. The pk sounds very nice. From what I hear the pads are better too. I may upgrade to it when I got the cash handy and pass this tf along to my brother. Besides I hate having all the extra knobs and faders on there and can't use em for anything.
