Is there a MIDI note for the sampling button?

I'm kinda new to MIDI but if my understanding is correct, if I can find out the MIDI note for the sampling button (on any sp really) then I could start/stop sampling from some sort of external MIDI device right?

Does anyone know the MIDI implementation for the sampling button? Specifically I'm trying to start/stop the sampling button of an sp-555 with an external footswitch. This is different from the loop capture section.

it can't be done with the 404, not sure about the 555. check the MIDI Implementation chart at the back of the manual

Yeah I've looked at it before but I'm not sure what I'm looking for.
Just Sampling Start = midi number x or something like that?

You'd want to look at the System Exclusive (sys-ex) messages supported by your particular SP.

The 404 and 555 have no sys-ex support of any kind so you're out of luck.

The SP-606 sends sys-ex when you hit the Sample button (in EXT mode only) but does not receive it.

hmm that's too bad. thanks for the technical info though. i'm still learning about MIDI so that little bit was helpful for clarification
