Hello to all.
( I´m from spain so sorry if i dont write correctly some things )

Yesterday i bought my SP-404 and i´ve been hours trying to import files from CF to the sampler and i cant.

I´ve done all following the manual. format CF with the sp404. Tried aiff and wavs, tried 2 cars too ( Kingston and other one) both of 1 gb capacity.

the problems appears when i try to import, press CANCEL + RESAMPLE , and the the screen shows FiL and when i press REC the screen shows me a EMP Message.

if i resample something to the CF and then i tried to import again , the screen shows me a FUL message.

im under OSX, i´ve tried two card readers, and also two CF cards, tried long and short WAV and AIFF. and i cant import any file to the sampler.

Thanks for yout time and i hope some of you recognize the problem and could help me.

Bye :?

Sorry to hear about your trouble, Karma.
I think I saw a post about this yesterday and they said they had to read part of the 555 manual to get the info they needed.

Here is the thread about that
Ok, its here somewhere but now I cant remember where I read it.
Maybe someone else can point it out if you cant find it.

Anyway, that person said they had to follow steps, like 1-3 from the 555 manual. Something like that.

Im not having any luck this morn. I was trying to hook you up with a link to at least the manual. I believe its on this site. If not check the roland clan forum or the roland website. Sorry, I gotta get my baby boy off to a dr appt.
Good luck.
Peace[/url]

Do your files have parenthesis or any sort of characters like that in it? If so rename them to just like hh1 or something like that.

thanks for your help.

i´ve tried to re-save each sample with audacity and named as C_01.wav , C_02.wav ..... and the problem doesnt solve.

when i try to import files it shows me the "empty" message.

I´ve reinitialize the 404 and now i dont have the factory sounds, and the first time i try to import files it seems like the sampler recognize that are samples in the CF card but when i choose the destiny pad it shows me the "full" message.

i dont know what it could be, looks like a CF error or something like computer formats and platforms where you use the CF card. (¿its posible that a CF card that the sampler format correctly doesnt work importing files? )

All the rest of the things in the sampler works fine, but one of the reason why i bought this is to import what im doing in my home studio and have the possibility to do it live with my band ... so..... :? .

anyway , thanks for your answers and i still searching the reason of all of this.

More things...

I´m recording samples into C-J Banks trying to find the problem...... so...

when i record samples from internal Mic all its ok, but when i resample any sound of bank A-B to C-J there are loud clicks and weird sound ... and when i record it from line In the same problem is there.

All the problems makes me think that the CF is the problem , but i´m doing it with two cards ( no manual-recommended ones) . I said it before . One is takeMS (www.takeMS.com) and the other is a standard Kingston 1 GB.

so... should i search a Sandisk to try it?

this coulb de tricky!
just make sure that the memory isn't used up b4 you ever get to the importation part; for instance if you have 420 megabites of wave files that you want to import from a 512 mb card, it might not work. remember your loading it back onto that same card but you have less than a hundred mb's

edit; you tried short wav. too damm what's this?

When you are copying the wav files from your computer to your memory card, *where* exactly are you copying them to? And, what do you see when you open the memory card with your computer? You should see a folder that's labeled "ROLAND" or something like that. Make sure you're not loading samples into that folder. They go in the same root folder that the "ROLAND" folder is in.

That's my best guess at a solution to your problem.

Much thanks for your answers.

when i plug the formated card into computer i see the name FUGUEFAT (as the name of the unit). inside there is the ROLAND folder and inside this all the subfolders of BK01, BK02, BK03, etc.. and SP404.

i´m copying the files in the root folder, as manual explain. I´ve been trying to import first short files, Drum kits , and short notes of a piano. things like that.

I´m starting to think that the unit have an unsolve problem, or maybe could be problem with CF (but i´m not going to buy hundred of different cards to find it)

anyway , when i plug the card the first time i dont remember if i do it correctly (correct folder i mean) , but i have reformated cards and reinitialize the sampler. I´m trying to find people with the same problem with SP-404 and find no one.

I´m very excited with the sampler ( my first one ), but i will take it back to the store and leave it there for days to let them test, find the problem or order a new one for me.

Thanks again to all. :)

You should give them your CF card so they can check if it's broken or not as well then.

Hope you get it fixed man!

be careful about that root folder issue. basicly that means you put all wav files next to the roland folder NOT in it. so basicly drag and drop directly onto the card NOT in the folder!

one other thought; could the program be adding anything to the name of the wav file? even if it was though it might not pose a problem.
