microkorg and sp question

yo, im alredy ready to buy a microkorg how can i scale it with the sp 404? midi ? is this good way for me? i need microkorg for adding instruments like piano etc to sp 404 drum sample line loop?

I have both of those and they work fine together. You can use the microKORG to trigger your 404's samples with its velocity sensitive keys (to alter the sound volume). Each octave of the microKORG plays a different bank on the sampler, if I'm not mistaken. The 404, unlike the 505 and 606, can not map out a sample across an octave so you can play it at different pitches. You'll have to do that manually yourself, either by resampling and using the pitch/timestretch functions or external software. You can plug the audio outputs of your synth into the 404 and sample it directly like that, too.

if i understand the question correctly, you're asking how to sample the mk into the 404. you'd just run audio from the mk's out to the 404's in, like any other sound source. midi has nothing to do with it. apologies if i'm misunderstanding...

Can you or somebody walk me through this?
I have the MIDI channels on my Microkorg and 404 matched at Channel 1 and all the other settings on the Microkorg seem to be right but I can't get it to do ANYTHING. I just want to be able to trigger patterns or samples with the keyboard. Any help? Something I might be missing?

Make sure your holding down pad 1 on the 404 when u turn it on. That's how select the midi channel it will use.

Ok, I see in your original post your looking to "scale" a sample on the keyboard. This isn't possible with the 404, it's more of a phrase sampler than the traditional type. You will have to sample each note individually from the korg. Hence the reason you get nothing when you have the keyboard controlling the 404. Know that each pad on the 404 has a static midi note assigned to it. The notes for each pad are listed in the manual (I think they begin with b2 triggering pad1 on bank a). So if there's no samples assigned to the notes your hitting on the keyboard there won't be any sound. Hope this helps.
