Post by KUDOS »

THANK YOU ALL FOR SHOWING UP TO THIS FAMILY AFFAIR (RIP SLY THE GOAT)

OLD SACRED BONDS WERE RENEWED  , NEW RIVALRIES EMERGED  , BUT WHO BEST CAPTURED THE ESSENCE OF OUR SPFAMILIA???

MY OWN VOTES WENT TO KWWUNDO FOR HIS EXTREMELY SPEEDY, EFFICIENT, AND EFFECTIVE USE OF THE 4:04 TIME LIMIT AND FAMILY EVENT FOR THE INFINITE REPLAY VALUE OF THOSE HEATERS <3 <3

I don't understand anything anymore.

I didn't vote for anyone. Even if there were parts of the "tunes" I liked, guys, there's just no need to purposefully make things sound so lo-fi. Even if you're just using a 202 on its own it doesn't need to sound like that. I don't get it. It's just a racket. I never knew what ear fatigue was until after I'd sat down to go through all the entries. And, fyi, you ain't offending the ghost of Dilla if you occasionally have drums that are in time.

Didn't listen to Lou's or Maxwell's entries coz they were hosted on sites that were cookie central.

I guess I liked Sleeps's stuff the best... but a) he broke the 4:04 rule and b) I don't want to risk the next round taking 2 and a half months or for there to be 2 and a half months' worth of samples to go through, so I didn't vote at all.

Obvs I'm taking the complete piss with my entry so I preemptively award myself "nul points".

DING!!!

Translation: "This week I competed in a beat battle competition. When the poll was put up I refused to vote because reasons. I even refuse to listen to some entries because, again, reasons. Also, my joke taking the piss entry is actually 'le son de jour'. Deuces!"

You 'avin a laff, m8?

Your joke entry is literally you cycling through all the samples and making it as "lo-fi" as possible. Or wait... is that the joke!? So smart. Oh, wait, so you are having a laugh? But you sound so serious. Especially the part where you literally shit on all the "tunes" - or was that a joke as well?

You enjoy sucking all the life that's left out of these battles don't you?

Also - complaining about the time frames is irrelevant when you literally have the power in your hands to create your own threads/battles/challenges in this forum at any time you want. There have been times in this forum's history where there have been three or four battles going on at the same time! (ZOMG!)

Oh wait... you did start one in December that you haven't done anything with. Oh..

There are also a plethora of other sample challenges/beat battles that are going on simultaneously in other beatmaking communities across the internet - but I guess you enjoy spending more time on Reddit shitting on other beatmakers than you do competing in battles or something? Who knows.

Your response tickles me to no end.
I don't even understand anything any more.

Lighten the fuck up and have some fun, or put a sock in it.

Not all the samples. Don't forget the completely random "off-kilter" drums!!!

Aye, well, it was supposed to be a joke but even I was surprised (or was I???) how much alike it was to the usual entry we get these days. Only took an hour too. Piece of piss this "microwave" lark, init? Sample loop; annihilate with lo-fi; overlay random drums... job's a good'un!

Why do you hate us?

I’m sure most enter these battles purely out of love and support of the community and craft.

Time and bandwidth are limited, bro.

If these battles are causing you stress, it’s prob a good idea to step away for a bit.

Enjoyed checking out all the tunes and had fun learning a bit more about my new SP202. Loving the new machine.

My votes are for kwwundo and FAMILY EVENT.

some dope shit put down by everyone, hard to choose, but no votes for cheaters

top 3 legal entries:
FAMILY EVENT: super insane vibes
"Uncle" Jess: super gritty
Microphones In The Trees: pretty good attempt at pressing the lofi button for an agent

HEYyyy YOUUU GUYS!
bwahaha MITS this was the best you ever sounded! ngl. I listened to the whole thing. cheeky title, almost asshole like but FR the grit and transitions were hilarious

Your other stuff was so ... how you say.. kinda like when dj shadow changed his gear choice to software.

obviously I can tell you're new at this style, so I won't speak on arrangement..~NOT veryyy geniusss BUT im soo glad you stopped using the MS1/sp in high quality sample mode. <3
it’s like you were anxious or overly serious in the previous battles. This entry was hilarious.
If it weren't for the lame title I wouldve thought " wow, this guy is trying to do some silly shit and develop and flip something out of his realm" OBViously genius sh!t /s with an entire troll participation award going to your smooth, moisturized hands

WAS really hoping to hear you tune those samples using your lofi beast king 303 with the pitch mod... alas. I didn't hear it. I actually tuned all the samples up so they were faster for you to embrace that non-stock SP feature on on your new knob
Did you use it?!
couldn't tell..

also, re: sample choice.. mother faw ker. you used the b3atles as a sample choice. gtfo
also, COOKIES?! u use soundcloud. go clear your cookies and get a VPN ya dork!

It NOW sounds like you use the limited capabilities of da SP's?! <3 with all those strings attached and lofi flavourzz. <3 less like a dj sahdow like beatmy bladder feels less full now

Lots to listen to here, and I would love to get through listening to every contribution.
Art is kewl eh!? so Subjective
