I was recently copying some samples from my 606 to my computer via USB. About halfway through my computer (macbook, running osx 10.4) seized and I had to restart finder. This meant that the connection between my 606 and computer was broken and the files didn't copy successfully, no big deal I thought.
I restarted my 606 and during startup it froze, I tried several more times experiencing the same problem. I took out the memory card and the 606 booted up no problem. I put the memory card back in, and it started to seize again. Great my memory cards stuffed and I don't have a backup.
I put my memory card into a reader and it was readable on my computer. I noticed that there were some unix executable files that in total were about 200mb. I'm guessing these are my lost samples. Is there any way (without having a backup) to retrieve my samples, or for that matter to get my memory card working again?

I would suggest to copy the entire content of the Flash Card to your PC as a back-up. Then format the Flash Card, insert it into the SP-606 and import / copy your sample files onto it again.
You may have to overwrite and copy certain files yourself to get this working, as your samples probably were already imported (or directly sampled) into the machine. The 200mb file is likely the one with your samples, so you'd need to copy that one.
(Another thing; you can derive from a fresh format what kind of file names and types are 'normal' to have on your flash card, there shouldn't be much more other files on there. Perhaps some SP-606-foreign Mac files got saved and confuses the SP-606 OS.)

Thanks for the help. I managed to retrieve about 75% of my samples, which I'm extremely happy about. I thought I'd try the card one last time before messing around with it and to my surprise it loaded. Most of the samples were still there but a quarter or so were damaged. I exported the remaining samples to wav, formatted the card, then loaded them back.
