SP202 Users - how wobbly are your knobs?
Oo'er, missus!
As per the title, how wobbly are your knobs?
I've had a few 202s over the years. My current one has really loose, wobbly knobs and they feel very fragile. i.e. if I grip them and move the pots side-to-side, there's a good couplafew mm movement. The ones I had before this one weren't like that at all - there was no side-to-side movement and there was a nice amount of resistance when turning them - they felt 'solid'. I just ordered another one off of Reverb to replace my current one (that also has a busted 9v power inlet) but that one was even worse than mine, knob-wise, so it's being sent back (altho hopefully the seller will want to do a deal on the 4mb card...). SO, how wobbly are your 202 knobs?

MY 202 IS HELLA MINT AND SHOULD BE A DECENT BAROMETER ON HOW A NEW ONE SHOULD FEEL, I WILL INVESTIGATE THE KNOBS ON YOUR BEHALF AND REPORT MY FINDINGS.
NEED TO BREAK IT OUT FOR THE NEXT BATTLE ANYWAY
ARE YOU GETTING ANY SCRATCHYNESS FROM KNOB MOVEMENT OR JUST KINDA A WEIRD FEEL THING?

That's a vid of wot I'm talking about. The one I had before this one was mint like yours and I'm certain the knobs had no side movement and the sweep felt firm.
No real scratchiness on the volume pot. Just the one 'pop' now and again...but the volume generally stays where it is anyway.

Re: SP202 Users - how wobbly are your knobs?
Sorry if this sounds obvious!! Have you tried pulling the pot cover off and see if it can be tightened like a regular potv
Re: SP202 Users - how wobbly are your knobs?
If you mean with a nut under the cover (oo-er, missus, again), nah, they don't have one. I've added a metal washer underneath to try and stabilise them and pushed some foam in around them too. It's like the bushing (oo'er... oh, never mind) between the black plastic spindle and the pot body has worn away.

Re: SP202 Users - how wobbly are your knobs?
Argh thats crap! Bit more work but if youre handy with a soldering iron could try and replace them!
Re: SP202 Users - how wobbly are your knobs?
Some dude in Aus is selling replacements but shipping is cray cray. Since the 9v power input is stuffed too, and that's unobtainium, I'd be better off selling it cheap with some rechargeable batteries and buying a replacement like the one I had before (a running theme with me!).

Re: SP202 Users - how wobbly are your knobs?
my control knob is about as wobbly as yours, ROTH. my volume knob is only slightly wobbly. I've never really had issue getting the levels right though, even when adjusting them during live takes for beat battles and such. I just worry about them going kaputt one day as one of my 505 effects knobs did.
Re: SP202 Users - how wobbly are your knobs?
Thanks. Oh aye, both work fine. They just feel like they could break any second as they're so wobbly and there's no resistance at all when turning. They just feel really flimsy when I'm sure my previous ones felt completely different.
Up yer bumz.
Re: SP202 Users - how wobbly are your knobs?
My control knob feels like that, but it hasn't broken or gotten any worse in the three years I've had it and the 202 is my main weapon of choice. I think you should be good as long as you are just a little careful.

Re: SP202 Users - how wobbly are your knobs?
SORRY FOR LAGGIN ROTH
BUT I GOT A CHANCE TO TAKE MY 202 OUT FOR SOME KNOB FIDDLIN. MINE ISNT AS EXAGERATTED AS THE SIDE TO SIDE MOVEMENT IN THE VIDEO BUT WAY LOOSER THEN I THOUGHT. WHATS CRAZY IS DIDNT NOTICE WHEN I JUST USED THE KNOB REGURARLY, SEEMED TIGHT AS MY OTHER SPS, BUT IT DEFINITELY HAS MORE SIDE TO SIDE STEEZ THAN THE REST OF MY SAMPLERS.
MINE LOOKS PRETTY MINT TOO, INGNORANCE WAS BLISS.

Re: SP202 Users - how wobbly are your knobs?
I have 2x 202's my older one has a bit of wobble on the right. The newer one wobbles the same both sides about a 32nd. My 404sx has a little wobble. I think the worst thing that happens is the silver contact coating under the pads starts to wear away. My older 202 is non functional on the left side pads(10 years use) 1,5 but this also happened on my OG404 as well. They sell a silver coating online that should world but I haven't tried it yet. Try not to wobble your knobs too much lol
