SPBB377 - The Classics POLL
2 Dayzzz
Voted KEL404 as they used a lot of the samples other than just the Colors Of You one, did so in fine style and collage-type beats are my fave. I never liked KRS-1 much (I always feel like I'm being told off when he's rrrrrrapping) but I liked his dig at Cypress Hill.
Extended by a day coz hardly anyone who entered has voted yet.

Flipped a penny between asha and ROTH- came up for Run. Both so good. asha you got the sound I really like and Run too this go round. I may add live bass to mine later.
ashac- dig the BoC vibe as always and swirls and film monologue- so good
Durdy really tight and well done
ROTHind- really nice mellow chord changes and breaks
kel404 very nice backing track could not id the samples good job
sleepynumb- love the monologue- some humor is so welcome

Durdy; loved the chords and little melodythat weaves in and out! LOVED the change up! That half time feel was a pleasant surprise and liked how it came back in with more energy from the repeative vocal stabs!
ROTH: loved the nostalgic opening, like a 1950’s recording just about not disintegrating! Swells worked great and was really like an evolving soundscape! LOVED it when it kicked in! All the reversed samples sounded great, in came the piano giving it more nostalgia and kept that evolving feel!
IIIII: nice forboding feel to the instrumentation! Acapella worked really well! Slight industrial feel, which I love! Would have worked well with a change of energy but also great as it is!
Kel: great energy! Another acapella that worked really well! Loved the background filter sweep swells!
Sleepy numb: great vocal samples and nice chilled vibe! Nice changeup in the middle! Gave it a whole other feel from another gone by era!
OM: liked the delayed drum intro and choppy drum break! Took a whole different direction from a lot of the others! Nice glitchy D&B style! I agree a bass wouldve took it up a notch!
Went with ROTH! Great atmosphere and production! The style I try and aim for! All round great entries though

Ha ha. That's mostly an accident - the timestretch is so shit on the 303 and adds so much clicking, it's necessary to filter dafuq out of it to hide it, lol, and I did a fast pan thing on it for the same reason. I see what you mean tho! Props for your props!asha c wrote:ROTH: loved the nostalgic opening, like a 1950’s recording just about not disintegrating!

Went with Kel's! So sharp! Loved when you changed the loop at the 'styles I flip' part. Second favorite was that of sleepynumb. Dope round, no doubt! Was listening to Run's elegant piece and was like "Oh no, mine is so obnoxious!"

Man this has been one of the hardest battles to decide my vote.
I have listened to all the entries 5 times plus, all amazing! Kind of have a three way tie in my brain rn, going to give one final listen when i get off work tonight and make my vote along with breakdowns for all the entries!
EDIT: I VOTED RUN > BACK TONIGHT FOR FULL SYNOPSIS
Think it shouldn't be later than 12 AM Pacific time!

Re: SPBB377 - The Classics POLL
Thanks for all entries! Very strong round!
And thanks for your votes. Wasn't expecting that as I thought it sounded a bit rough. Thanks!
Something a bit different for 378...!
