Hi everybody

My first post - I have just bought a 606 on eBay, which hopefully is on its way from Miami to the UK, I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Having read a few posts about P606, problems with installation, how much better Kinetic is, etc, I had a look on Amazon, and found Kinetic 2 on sale for £19.95, or roughly $40! Amd on the US Amazon site, it's up for $49.99! Seems like a good deal to me?

Looking forward to lots of fun times with this piece of kit...!

You probably won't need Kinetic 2 if your P606 software works fine, as it's pretty much the same program.

Kinetic 2 is a bit more advanced I guess, but contrary to P606 it wasn't specifically adjusted to or made for the SP-606.

All installation issues with P606 have to do with Windows and getting the SP-606 drivers to work. This is something you might run into with Kinetic 2 too as well.

In my case, Windows simply won't recognize the SP-606 as MIDI device, this means Kinetic 2 (which I also have by the way) won't recognize my SP-606 either.

Thing with the P606 software is that it won't start if your SP-606 device isn't connected and recognized as MIDI device by Windows. Kinetic 2 will start fine, but if your SP-606 device isn't recognized as MIDI device, then you won't be able to use your SP-606 as controller with that program either...

So I may be no better off, even with Kinetic. Oh well - what can I do, other than try the install when it arrives. I've seen lots of posts here with suggestions to get the thing working. Fingers crossed?!

I think it's actually a pretty rare issue, so no need to be worried just yet! I just wouldn't advise to jump on the deal for Kinetic 2 before you know if it all works.

I think it's rare because you don't find much information on it on the internet, except maybe on this site and one or two others... Seems, maybe 15 people in total have this problem as far as I can tell.

Anyways, you'll going to love the SP-606 regardless of that!

I have K2 and I don't even use it, maybe it's because I use Sonar 7 for pretty much everything, However I did get K2 to recongize my Sp but still no luck with the P606 software.. K2 is great as hell, but it's too tedious,, I can control K2 with my Sp and then organize songs into k2.. I did one song with using the Sp606 Check it out...

It's called Ridin' .. this was my first time using the Sp but you can kinda get an idea of the capabilites using K2.. However I must agree with Phemox

Well, it arrived from Amazon, I couldn't resist for £20. Not sure the SP I've bought off eBay comes with the software anyway, there was no mention in the advert.

Anyways, you'll going to love the SP-606 regardless of that!

I can't wait! I have a few analogue non-MIDI synths and drum machines, I'm hoping the SP is going to make it a lot easier to integrate them. Sample the sounds from the hardware and then assemble it with the SP and with K2...

It's a good program no less and perhaps K2 is more to your likings than the P606 software as there are some differences people tend to 'complain' about (both pro K2 and con K2 so to speak).

It's not really a big deal anyway if it doesn't come with the P606 software on a CD because you've bought it second-hand, a few days ago someone posted a link on this forum here to the UK website of Roland. You can download the P606 software right there.
