new update

Post by asha c »

just got the new MK2 in the post, so far, not so good, Can't even unzip the .bin file on my Mac to update to the latest software, feeling like this thing is way too complicated and screen based, any help appreciated! UPDATE: ahh managed to sort it, didn't realise its the actual SP that opens the .bin files!

Hey asha,

wow i thought you're already a mk2-user.
Which samplers did you use before then?
Yes, it's more screen based, but in my opinion beside setting up end- or start-points of samples only for the advanced functions. It can be a little overwhelming at first and the new button combos has to find their ways into the muscle memory.
But it is an incredible mighty machine. I'm still on Version 2.X, though.

Was using the OG 404 since 2012! Briefly had a 505 as well at one point.
The new update is great, you can switch between skip back and a looper as well as a groove function.

Starting to get my head around it but still a few things throwing me like the fx bus and getting the chop function right! I do miss the flow of the OG 404, especially the speed but the mk2 does seem like a dream come true in terms of its extra functions. Gonna give my daughter the OG! Seems pointless having a duo with the mk2 unless it was something with a specific sound like the 202.

Haha, yes. Same here. 404og-user since 2011. When i switched to mk2, at first i wanted to send it back, because it feels so slow compared to og. Especially setting up start- and endpoints by ear is on the og so damn fast. And suddenly with mk2 you have to look on a screen, zoom in, etc.
But after 2 weeks i was into the workflow and did not want to go back.

Yeah, keep the og around, it's got a certain sonic character, too...love the lofi-sampling option on this thing and the sound of some efx.

How come you havent updated the software? The looper function is definitely worth it! Especially as you play instruments too

I started working on a lofi house ep 2 years ago on the mk2. I got 9 tracks by now on the machine and i play them live occasionally since spring last year. I wanted to update to version 3 last year, but i ran into problems with the sd-card (-reader) and could not back up my projects. i still had got warranty back then, but the customer service told me, i will loose all my work when i get it repaired. So i decided not to get it repaired and had to skip the update, to save my tracks. By now i could repair the sd-card-reader myself - I only had to bend a few wires back to their places. So by now i can update. But i think i'm going to finish my 9-track-ep first. 2 of them need a 'lil bit of work.
But i'm curious - will be a big update from 2.x to 4.04. :)

2.x -> 3.x was a simply massive update with sorely needed functionality honestly...

3.x -> 4.x is not as big an update from a functionality standpoint, but it absolutely address some much needed workflow changes/fixes, and streamlines a lot of the stranger design decisions to make things a lot more musically relatable...

hope that helps!
