Tried it in a shop a few months back... It all depends on what your lookin for !
PLUS :
++ Great sounds overall, sick synths, and sick ethnic sounds, PC editor included.
+ VST included for producing on PC if you need/want to.
MINUS :
-- very few keys, so you won't be playin your favorite piano solo, or complex synths lines extending on more than two octaves
- Keep in mind it is not an analogue or VA synth, but a "rompler", meaning you edit sounds from wavetables and not oscillators. It is much less "direct" concerning editing, and at the same time much more powerful in terms of sound.
- the combos are essentially shit, AND combos are interesting on larger keybards, with keysplit and all. Of course you can make your own.
I went for the TR, much more expensive, weaker sounds for synths and ethnic, but with sampler and sequencer. What really made the difference was the 61 keys. I would have taken the micro x otherwise.

thats actually alot to consider. i kinda like working with a limited workflow cuz it "forces you t get creative and unique" i have reason 4 but got bored with being able to do things so easily. i might just snatch that up anyway but that sucs not being able to adjust osc since thats like a fav amongst boardist...thanks

Too bad you weren't shopping last fall, Guitar Center got a bunch of them form Korg in white and sold them for $399 while black ones sitting next to them were still $649
Yes, it is based on the Triton sound engine and sample set.

Well, maybe they will knock 150 bux off the microkorg since they have the ltd ed reverse keys one. *fingers crossed*
I know that aint gonna happen though.

Yeah basically the TR is just a X50 on steroids, with sampler, sequencer and xy joystick instead of modwheels. The TR felt somewhat sturdier, and was within my budget so I figured why not ?
But for the price I guess you can't beat the microX : it has beautiful and more "up to date" synths, and really (really) good ethnic sounds. And it comes with a case you cannot loose (bright orange
