Church.

5, 7 & 10. Couldn't decide on an order as they're quite different, but will if it comes down to a tie break.

And the much coveted vote from SP-USER this month goes to 5, 8, 3.
I went mainly for the vibe on these!

2, 3, 4. In no order.

Honestly there was way too much sample material. Full albums and playlists don't really make anything comparable. We are just picking which beats we like, compared to who used the source material the best. Less is more, homies. Less is more.

+1

It's more of a beat battle if we work with the same soure material.
  1. 1 track to sample from.
  2. Same drums for everyone.
  3. Acapellas/raps/skits :: yes/no
  4. Bassline :: yes/no
  5. Synth/fx :: yes/no
SP only!
External master is okay.
Have fun! :D

I personally think a wide selection isn't a bad thing. Even if you personally didn't use all the samples, you still listened to them all, so can hear what people did with them. And it's kinda fun, coz you can hear stuff being used you might've wanted to but couldn't get to fit yourself.

That being said, I do also see the value in a more comparative competition of just one song or wotevz.

Two different types of competition, really. I'm happy to do both. And when considering my votes for both types, both what I like AND how cleverly the sample material has been used is considered in my pickings, along with other stuff like arrangement, what machine was used and recording/production etc etc.

Having a wide selection isn't a bad thing, but over a hour a material is excessive. Especially when most are gonna make a 1:30 beat. Having 3 sample sources would be plenty. 10 mins max is perfect, maybe more for those bizarre 20 minute recordings. Scanning through a hour of material is a buzz kill for me. A few others have expressed this in the past also. Some might spend 2 hours just to find what they what to chop.
