I like both of your 'Tape Loop' albums, they are both very much my taste. Why are they called "Tape Loops" though, are you using one of those endless tapes as a drone for this stuff or something like that?

Track #7 on the first Tape Loop album had me wondering if you're doing this on a Volca Modular. If it's not I reckon you'd love a Volca Modular, sounds very much like that sorta stuff and it has the creepiest sounding reverb I've ever heard.

I've thought about picking-up a pair myself a few times now and still might!

Thanks!! Yeah the endless tape loop improvisations are providing the backbone, recorded on fourtrack and then, on some I’d improvise over the top of them! On the track you mentioned,i think its a casio sk 1 that I circuit bent run through delay! back from when you could pick one up for a couple of quid at car boots!! Damn i do miss those days!

Ah right, nice, I've often thought an SK-1 would sound awesome put through summat like a Monotron Delay. As for getting one for a fiver, lol, yeah those times are long gone. I just looked on eBay and see one boxed that looks mint for a bargain £199.

Nice, I'll take ten then

I got a Yamaha VSSxxxwoteva (the one that Sigur Ros use), boxed, from a chazza just before lockdown for a tenner. Flipped it for £250, lolz.

Agh been on the lookout for one of those for years!! Picked up a few sk’s in the past and bent and sold them!! Hard to find anything useful these days!! Any old Casio and an old drum machine can be a great combo!

I hear you both, seriously 8)

Believe me, I totally want a dirty, weird little setup for producing dark, industrial weird stuff, and in fact the SOMA RoAT is the only synth that escaped being returned (and it is largely due to me wanting such a setup).

So I've decided to go for two setups rather than one (this is something I thought about many times). I got really pissed-off yesterday when I was reminded that there's no way to record the input while resampling on the SX. So after all that ranting about the SX the other day, I won't be buying one after all, lol.

So what I'm going to do is have two setups. The first setup will comprise of only an SP-404MKII and nothing else. So I'll wait to see how Roland update it then hopefully buy a MKII with the sole intention of having an SP to participate in the SPBBs on here.

The other setup will consist of the following:

- RoAT (Drone and Noise Synth Duties)
- Speak (Vocal Synth Duties)
- Volca Bass (Subtracive Analogue Synth Duties)
- Volca Modular (Experimental Synth Duties)
- ES-1 (Sampler, Sequencer, Mixer and Effects Duties)

That setup is purely for doing dark, industrial weird stuff and will be treated as a permanent project of it's own if you know what I mean, never to be split up. It might seem like an odd little setup, but that odd little setup can do some amazing, filthy, industrial-sounding Lo-Fi things and is small enough to slouch over at my worktop/desk.

Damn, there I go again, looks like I've derailed your thread, sorry mate

Dont worry, i dont feel youve derailed my thread Im just glad someone had a listen! Thinking about getting the mkii but its easy to get into the realm of believing an extra piece of equipment will inspire creativity so still unsure, wish idve kept the 505, that could resample with audio in whch is one of the things I really miss about it!

I wonder if you can do it on the SP-555, do you know?

The only two (three now you mentioned the SP-505) that I know of that can do it is the SP-303, SP-505 and SP-404MKII. Definitely would love to know if the SP-555 does it as well cause it's basically an SX with pattern sampling added on to it from the looks of it.

If manuals were to be trusted the SP-303 doesn't have the ability even though it does
Wouldn't have known about the SP-303 having the ability either if it weren't for Nonjuror.

Anyway, will take a look.
