...to trigger pads via MIDI when in the 303's in Pattern mode? i.e. using an external sequencer as a song sequencer.

Don't worry, I answered my own question as I realised I could use the MS-1 to trigger the 303 by MIDI and, alas, no, 'tis not possible. Still triggers the samples not the patterns. Doh!
