SPBB345 - We are the music makers...

Post by Girru »

Kel asked me to provide the samples for 345, so here's one I made earlier...

A small selection of some samples that have been sitting on CF cards for years. Mostly taken from vinyl/cassette with an MPC2kXL circa 2015...so, time for something to finally be done with them!
Despite my relative newness to the ways of the SP, hopefully I have provided for you what Maverick and Goose would refer to as a "target-rich environment".

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT... (because rules make games FUN for everyone!!!)

Your beat must contain at least one thing from EACH of these tracks...

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/vnpeylln ... p5o42f6884

Mostly by serendipity, a lot of them are pretty closely harmonically related, so you should be able to get some layering going. Yeehaw!

All beat production to be done on...
MS-1/202/303/OG/SX/A/505/555/606/808/MkII only;
multiple units is obvs fine.

DAW fine for simple multitrack/2-track recording & EQ/effects/mastering...but not too much mucking about, eh? Honour system! Leave that mouse alone or you'll go blind!

Only the provided samples to be used - the odd rappapella interjection is OK; will forgive a synth bassline.

'Track 4 - Dreamivox' samples are all mono. All other samples are stereo, so get "panning for gold"! (A few of them are dual mono, actually).

Submissions to be emailed or link dropboxed in a DM on here to me by end of day Thursday 13th October, as we'll do an anoymous compo, thanks to a suggestion by Asha C. I'll be putting them up on youtube, so if some of you want to do a vid as usual, send me an mp4 or wotevz instead. [email protected]. If you emailed audio, DM me on here too, to let me know you've sent it, lest it goes to my junk.

Friday 14th will be "SPBB345 Reveal Day" and they'll all go up for our collective perusal.
Voting takes place over Sat/Sun 15th/16th; winner declared and whose track was whose revealed on Monday 17th!

Winner gets a Geefresh 'brucie bonus' by email (it might be useful to 'em; might not).

Come, my selecta!

Nice! Amazing samples! Started already! Enough material to make a beat tape in there!! Im on a 13 hour shift friday so if you are about to close entries would you mind hanging in there for me? Or you could do the anonymous beat battle where we send them to you and you post them all!

Mine started out as some dodgy 2-step garage nitemare. Have luckily wrangled it back in a moody Aphex Twin-type direction.

Thanks to a suggestion from Asha, I think we'll do an anonymous round, eh? Therefore, send me a dropbox-type link of your audio/video in a DM on here or email me your tracks (and DM me on here too, to let me know you've sent it, lest it goes to my junk). [email protected]. Rules updated, lolz. Ta!

Nice one, spliffsoldier!

Yeah, it helps having a mate who's now a record dealer and was once a DJ for a funk/soul night at the Hacienda back in the day! I used to cart my MPC over to his every Friday night and he'd be chucking 7s and 12s at me, telling me where the breaks etc were, me furiously samplling away lolz. A lot of my personal sample stash comes from those nights.

Really strong tunes! Gonna be hard to pick a fave! Seven submitted so far with a few hours to go for any stragglers?

I'll be posting the vid link and poll tomorrow sometime in the afternoon [UK time], hopefully around 1pm but possibly not until 6pm, depends on work.
