Why are you wasting your time on this stuff?...when you could post something decent in the thread.
Apart from one, every single track I've posted in here was posted because I genuinely enjoy the track. There literally is no limit to the sort of music I like to listen to as long as it captures my attention in some musically pleasing way. This could be down to melody, technique or a whole bunch of other factors.
I only post quality tunes, and the 80s love ballad you just attacked is no exception. "Flying On The Wings Of Tenderness" has everything one expects from a quality 80s love ballad. It's a quality tune, it's well written, it's well produced and most of all, it's well sung, so it's everything I expect from a quality 80s love ballad.
The only track I ever posted that wasn't a track I would listen to is "Long Time Woman" by Pam Grier. I admit I posted that one just for the video, but every other track I posted was out of genuine admiration for the track for one reason or another. I tend to enjoy music that is melodically pleasing, flowing and catchy.
You might find this hard to believe but I actually really enjoy this thread from an educational standpoint. That said, I'm often left scratching my head how my tracks get dimissed as "rubbish" or "aweful" or whatever. I mean even the funk track I posted at the top of this page was responded to with a list of three supposedly better funk tracks. So I listened to them and was shocked to find that the first two didn't even
sound like funk tracks to me, and it was only the third that had any funk about it!
I much prefer the "Lipstick" track I posted, because that sounds much more like funk to me. That's why I never bothered to reply, I was reluctant to cause now I'm wondering what the fuck "Funk" is actually supposed to be if the track I posted isn't and the first two you posted in response is. For me, "Lipstick" was way more enjoyable and recognisable as a "Funk" track than the three recommendations you gave, so I'm totally confused.
Not knocking your choices though, and in fact you will never see me knock anyone's choice in music, I never have and never will. There's a whole bunch of stuff posted in this thread that I think is just plain unlistenable, but I never say so because it's down to the individual what they think is good.
I actually don't mind when people criticise the tracks I post (and this occasion is no exception), because it makes me wonder what must go on in their head to come to such decisions, so yeah, it's all interesting but often unfothomably weird for me! On the plus side it is often amusing, and sure, I had a big gfrin ion my face when I thought to post "The Hoff" for your attention!
I don't even listen to him normally, I just posted the tracks to change things up a bit, sort of an unexpected surprise if you will, and frankly I'm amazed you can criticise him like that. His cover of "The Passenger" even has hardcore fans of the original drooling and saying what a fine job he made of it (and personally I think it's the best cover ever made of that track, and is more enjoyable to listen to than the original).
As for the ballad, well, I honestly have no idea why it's being met with such negativity. It's a love ballad for fuck sake. It's well written, well produced, well sung and pretty damn catchy as far as I'm concerned, so again I'm quite surprised at the negativity!
