Everytime I try to record a song using my SP on Audacity, it records fin from time to time, but always glitches out at points. Can Audacity just not handle an SP or what? Any other free recording programs out there?

I haven't encountered that problem with Audacity. As for other programs, I highly recommend GoldWave:

http://www.goldwave.com

It has a way rad batch conversion utility where you can apply effects and file format changes to a huge number of files at once with ease. Also, you can audition/preview effects before you apply them, modify them (as well as add, rename and delete them) and stack 'em up. It also has an expression evaluator, which is sort of a software synth that you can program. It's not freeware like Audacity is, but it doesn't cost much and worth it.

it could also be that you are multitasking or your ram isn't big enough to handle the load. what's your ram count/processor speed?

yeah i'd guess you need more ram or to have less running processes. sometimes you get better performance with linux. there's a knoppix distro called musix that comes pre-loaded with lots of audio and other creative apps, you might try that. what os / processor / ram you have in there now?
