I knew there would be some give and take on the 404 mark2. For everything you get new, they always decide to take some features away. And maybe it’s dollars/cents, maybe it’s doing something easy vs. difficult, maybe it’s just the way Roland has always operated. Feel free to scratch your heads or ball sacks gentlemen. (And if we have any female beat makers, please accept my potty humor)

Anyhoo, I’m scoping YouTube every few hours to see SOMETHING official dropped. I don’t care if the worst beat maker or complete muppet wants to showcase this. Just want to see it in action!!! Am I going to buy it right away? Probably not. But definitely will when I’m ready to!!

Aight so for everyone saying "the photos of the 404mk2 look photoshopped/manipulated, and photoshopping/manipulating an image makes the subject fake, therefore the 404mk2 is fake" (or any variation of this argument):

Every incorporated company that sells any kind of product will alter their photos heavily. I'd know cause I've done graphic design for companies, done photoshoots, did post secondary in both graphic design and photography, etc., not my main trade nor what I'm doing in life now but I've been on that side of things a little bit.

It's simply a very important part of the industry. Same reason whoppers and big macs look great in commercials and look like crap in real life. People will buy it if it looks good, and unnaturally good-looking is what sells the most. Same reason why models are heavily photoshopped. Those people actually do have acne and stretch marks and stuff, but that doesn't sell as well as airbrushed skin.

It's a completely normalized thing in the industry. Every model you see in a piece of clothing, every product that's put on the web, friggin' everything, it's all processed heavily through some sort of photo manipulation software, be it Capture One, Photoshop, Affinity Photo, whatever that company has decided to purchase licenses for.

Many companies won't even take a picture of the real thing. They'll make a fake/something that doesn't actually work and take photos of it because it looks good, not because it's functional. The first iPhone is a perfect example of this– Steve Jobs had a bunch of prototype iPhones at the announcement, and through slight-of-hand swapped them out for another one numerous times as none of them were fully functional. But, the non-working iPhones got the selling/announcement done and Apple ended up being able to sell a working model.

Now, all this being said, I cannot confirm if the 404mk2 is real, but the "photoshopped" argument doesn't stand up as this is a completely normal thing for a company to do. Like, if they didn't do it, then the very fact that they didn't manipulate any images of it would be a far better argument for why it's fake. But it seems like they did. So, let's just sit back and wait to see. If whatever this is has travelled as far as it has, I'm sure Roland's gonna have to say something at some point!

Anywho, just my drinking-motivated little-bit-more-than 2 cents.

What I noticed whats missing is the timestretch (I really don't miss it :D ) and sample rate like standard and lofi. But with that pitch/speed knob, that will do the deed of both. Only thing I want to know if I can sample at a low pitch rate or higher like on the SP1200 to save on memory.

Granted its at 16GB of memory, but manipulating the pitch during sampling with give you all kinds of crunchy and lofi sounds.

I'm genuinely touched to see that while Zindan was attacking me for my advice on women, he's been taking my advice. Fair enough, he's gone a bit further up the age ladder than I meant but there's nothing wrong with that, and at least he's learning and it looks like the bastard is going to get a new MK-II before me now!!!

Fun fact: That dude on the bed actually looks remarkably like myself about ten years ago - OMG & WTF

Cosmetically: I really dig the look of the rumoured pic, but looks aren't everything lol. I'm not much of a technical jargon pro, but I read that the MK2 steps up to 32 voice polyphony? If I'm not mistaken, the SX has 12 voice polyphony which can be a real pain if you wanna get into some more intricacies layering or arranging pads (I personally dont have much of an issue with finding ways to place small details through sequencer on SX but have come across people really bummed out by this limit). So this jump to 32 I think is VERY attractive for people who want to get a bit more crazy and experimental in their sequencing or layering whilst ALSO having a great performance machine in their hands.

I read the pads are now velocity sensitive, do I have faith that they'll be reliable? not really haha. Would be cool to see if there is a setting to switch off the sensitivity and have it set to a standard velocity (would feel great to play with those pads by the looks of it).

Someone mentioned whenever they add something new, something gets taken away, and I hope they don't take away something great for the rumoured "faster boot up and project loading speeds" which I don't really see as a necessary upgrade, more of a convenience thing I guess.

Looking at the rumoured price of $499 shocked me a bit considering I've seen 404A's in that price range and by the looks of it I'd much rather get the MK2 than the A if it was a battle between the two.

But idk

But that's my take :)
