Not Hip-Hop related music, but I just read that "Don't Shut Me Down" reached NUMBER ONE in ELEVEN countries just TWO hours after launch.

Fucking hell, that deserves some serious respect even by their standards. That's a mind-blowing achievement and apparently it's just the B-Side to the other song they just released. If that's the case then I have to say I agree with the fanbase that "Don't Shut Me Down" is a much better track than the A-Side, it's way more catchy, uplifting and very "ABBA".

If you've not heard it, be warned it gets more addictive each time you play it, very clever, and I'm not surprised it reached number one in eleven countries just two minutes after launch, either.

Man, I wish I had their writing and composition talents and I'm really glad they specifically never allowed themselves to be influenced by modern music-making trends. They sound like ABBA, they are ABBA and like them or not (I do and have every studio album of theirs), they really are musical legends even when you wade past all the gushing comments from their devoted fans.

So if you ever wondered what the magic ingredients are for success with this stuff, just listen to ABBA and learn from them. They returned with this track 40 years after their previous album and have totally steam-rolled the records with it. I believe they're in their seventies now as well.

And Just because they create hooklines so insistent it would take invasive surgery to remove them from your cranium does not make them classic songwriters. By that criterion, the folks behind the Crazy Frog ringtone would be geniuses.

Not true, I'm from Hell myself and I can confirm I've never seen ABBA down here!

And anyway, Crazy Frog had the opposite effect of ABBA. If I recall there were so many complaints about it they had to ban the advert from TV. But yeah, fair enough, people seem to either get an adrenaline rush from their music, or they simply cannot stand them. Me personally, I can confirm goosebumps on hearing it cause I was one of those who was a bit weary of them returning. I thought they would be wise to be content with their legacy and leave it at that, thinking they might and be influenced by the shit that frequents the charts these days.

Thankfully they haven't been, and that track is very catchy, very ABBA.

I also just read the new album, "Voyage", is the most pre-ordered album in history or something along those lines. I'm obviously looking forward to that but what I'm also hoping is that it will trigger the return of Disco tracks to the charts. "Don't Shut Me Down" has a strong Disco vibe to it so its success just might trigger an influx of new Disco releases from other artists.

That in turn could be healthy for the Hip-Hop community since Disco tracks are popular when it comes to sampling for Hip-Hop.
