can anyone explain the phenomenon/how to fix playing a sample that starts at 4.3, for example and ends in the next measure?

a lot of times when i do this, if i start the pattern from the beginning, that ending part of the first sample doesnt play on the first-go through

can anyone get a sample to play if it runs over into the next measure?

If I understand you right I would say, this won't work... A sample just plays if it's position is hit (in your case at 4.3) So it's impossible to hear what starts at 4.3 cause your beat starts at 1.1... and it doesn't matter how long the sample is. If you that need part of the sample at the beginnig of your song just create a pattern with a length of 1 and put your sample at 1.3 so you can start with your that sample and switch to your main pattern... or another tip would be to cut that sample and put part one at 4.3. and the second at 1.1 ...

dunno if that was the question... :?: maybe you know that already... :)

yeah, i kinda figured that might be the case.....

it just sucks cause if you have a drum hit or somethin hitting even a fraction of a second before the beat, like if your tryin to get a stagger feel, it will never play in playback the first time...o well :(

sounds like this can be resolved with an extra edit. just make a copy of the pattern and the sample. Cut the sample in half and play each part where its supposed to be.

you could record the pattern with what is you last measure first, meaning your 4.3 sample will be on 1.3 and then 2.1 will be the start of your "first measure" that might be confusing and just chopping the sample in half might be better

One way I get around this is - when recording - edit the pattern so it is 5 measures long instead of 4. I keep the 5th measure completely empty, other than that lingering sample or drum hit.

I do that - or I make two patterns - the full 4 bar pattern with the beat on 4.3, 4.4, 4.4.3...whatever...

then a single one bar pattern with that sample again on the 1.3, 1.4, 1.4.3... -

press the single bar pattern first - then the 4 bar pattern and you shouldn't have any worries - as long as yr not synced up to anything else (?) by midi or it might start at start of that single bar pattern :)
