fkn sharp transients

forum is not that busy nowadays but anyways gonna make a thread about this

i dont usually compress hits that i sample with the comps inside coz they are supper aggressive on everything, and the vinsim at its lowest settings 's got too much release, so generally i'll try to use the isolator and move the knobs as i resample a hit and gradually cut whatever i think must go

so today i actually went and used the comps to give a bit of snap to a snare that i like the body but had no transient

AND DAMN THOSE COMPS GIVE A SNAP!! more than i could handle!
so then i go to mix the 2 together as in parallel comp, but that phase thing appears and ruins my snare.... or i'm so useless i cant play 2 pads at the same time right.... which i'm not

at the end i just used another snare, but i'm not really satisfied
so now i ask for advice

how do you people manage it without getting it out of the sp and using a clipper or transient shaper or whatever??

personally i've always used compression only on the master bus, never on drum samples alone
only FX processing i do on drum samples is EQ, isolation, panning really

yeah man I also think w the sp sometimes you just have to make sacrifices for certain things, obviously to a certain level tho. I learnt a trick pretty recently to kinda shave off a little bit of the transient is to use the chromatic pitch on the sound you want 'calmed down', if you set it the pitch you want then resample it so it doesn't have the weird double hit sound. It will probs take a few tries but if you layer the effect a few times it might work.

I haven’t really messed with compression too much. I’d probably just score a used Alesis 3630 compressor for $50 and let it do the job if I cared. But I don’t really bother with recording or compression. If I were to take it more seriously I would, but it just depends on the frequency you need to keep from going past a threshold, and somehow it made your mix sound good.
