Best finds?

Post by Sere »

So what're your guys best finds and where from? :D

Anything from online to pawn shops, my best is probably just an MV being pawned for barely anything.

Circa 2015, driving around Riverside, CA on 90 degree plus day. Pull up to a pawn shop with $4-500 in my bank account. Saw they had a Zoom ST-224 and a Yamaha SU-200 for $100 each. The 224 had a printed out manual. Had a pay-by-da-minute phone and didn’t want to use the internet to look up these samplers (lazy and I’m a cheapa$$) so I chose to get the 224. Went home to find out both were going for $170 or so regularly. Went back a few weeks later and the SU-200 was gone. Still glad I got the 224.

Similar deal, but circa 2012 during college (sophomore year). Riverside as well. Found an Ensoniq ESQ-1 for 75 bucks. A few buttons missing (find em’ on Syntaur.com for chump change) and some minor gunk makin’ it look dusty and questionable. I asked for $60 and they said “let’s meet at $70, tax included.” Went home and saw that it was a great deal and a friggen analog filter synth!

Saved up a bunch of gift cards from a few holiday events at the big brand store I used to work at (they’d give you gift cards if you worked on Black Friday or July 4th or day before Christmas type stuff). Ended up with $350 worth of cards at the company I literally never shop at myself. Go online and look at stuff. Find cheapie guitars. Boring. Find some Digitech guitar pedals. Cool cool. Type in Moog. WHAT!?! Moog comes up!! Got a deal on a nice Moogerfooger in the end, most of which paid in my saved up gift cards.
love thy sampler

Picked up one of these myself around 15 years ago for £80.. When I asked the dude why he was selling it he said "cause it sucks"..

It doesn't.. He really didn't understand what he had there at all.. What a chump .

Flipped it a few years back for a huge profit to a guy who makes Techno and House music.

Amazing synth for bass and leads if you actually take the time to learn how they work .. Using it with patch leads etcetera.

I got my SP404 for like $150 from a pawn shop. Had to do it in payments, but the day I picked it up I brought my DR202, SP202, and my Korg Kaosspad, and used them in a park. A tad distracting, but I had fun for a hour or 2, but wasn’t trying to kill the batteries on everything, so I packed everything and went home. That pawn store easily coulda sold it for $350 and I still would have tried to score it. I have yet to get a SX or A, but if I don’t it’s all good.

A runner up is my Akai S20 I got for $50 at my local GuitarCenter. It was ok, but I didn’t do much with it. I noticed that whatever you sample can get pitched -50 (sounding slow and sludgy, and MAJOR audio artifacts, or +50 which is like fast forwarding your Walkman tapes at Mach One. I lost the power supply once, and a replacement cost me about $30 on eBay, but I love this thing so much it was worth it. I probably paid $5 for 3.5” floppy’s, which is handy for backing up anything on my SP202.

I found an interesting application for the phone, I want to share my information with you. With this application you can find out about your boyfriend's phone calls, read more here there. You just need to install such an application on your smartphone, and you will always be aware of who, when and what your son is talking to in phone messages.

Some dude was selling his SP202 for $150 bucks and I offered him $60 and he took it. I would have paid $100 at the time lol This was like 2012-13

Probably they fail to realize what it can do despite it lacking in features compared to its brothers & sisters. But it was the first of the whole line, so of course it’s not feature packed. Some people assume it’s obsolete or not worth anything. But they’re not seeing the forest for the trees, when we’re talking about the mighty SP202!
